Digger buckets among items stolen
Gardai are seeking the assistance of the public after a series of break-ins in the last week.
On Monday September 10, at around 9pm, a house in Moymews in Ballymahon was burgled. The rear door of the property was forced through and a sum of cash and some alcohol was stolen.
Gardai are also asking anyone who noticed anything suspicious around Butterfly Interiors on Dublin Street in Longford between 6pm Monday September 9 and 9am Wednesday September 12 to contact them. The premises was broken into by a rear door, with a sum of cash then stolen from the till.
On Monday last, September 17, a house at Canal Bank in Longford was ransacked between 12 midnight and 8.30am. Entry was gained through a window on the roof of the boiler house. A ladies handbag was taken.
Gardai are also investigating the theft of two digger buckets from Newtowncashel last Friday, September 14. Between 6pm on Friday evening, and 1pm on Saturday, two digger buckets were stolen from a lane-way in Derrycullen. One ordinary bucket, valued at €700 and one long-rake bucket, valued at €900 was taken.
Anyone who noticed anything suspicious at any of the above times are asked to contact Gardai in Longford on 043 334 6741.
Meanwhile, Gardai in Longford are not treating as not suspicious the discovery of a man’s body in a house in Newtownforbes last Saturday. The body of the man, aged 55, was removed to Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore, where a post mortem was due to be carried out on Monday last. It is expected the man died of natural causes.
