Constituency Changes in Leitrim, Roscommon and Cavan proposed

The Longford Westmeath Constituency would be left intact as a four seater but Leitrim, Roscommon and parts of Cavan will be affected by changes if proposals from the Constituency Commission out today are implemented. Under the proposals, the number of TDs in Dail Eireann would be reduced to 158.

In this area, the proposals would end the electoral split of Co Leitrim. The county would be joined with Co Sligo and 36 electoral areas of West Cavan to form a four-seat Sligo-Leitrim constituency. The parts of Cavan affected by the proposals include Arva, Gowna, Crossdoney, Ballyconnell, Killeshandra, Swanlibar up as far as Dowra. Cavan-Monaghan would become a four-seat constituency under the proposals.

Under the proposals, Roscommon would be joined with 33 electoral divisions of East Galway to form a three-seat Roscommon-Galway constituency.
