Carrigglass items go for sale at Adam’s Auction

A host of paintings and artefacts from Carriglass Manor, located close to Longford town went under the hammer during Tuesday’s Adam’s Country House Collections auction which took place on Tuesday last at Slane Castle.

Over 200 items went under the hammer including a portrait of Thomas Langlois Lefroy, once High Sheriff of County Longford which featured in this week’s Longford Leader. The painting fetched €320 despite having a reserve price of between €400 and €800. A similar portrait which also features in this week’s paper was one of Anthony Lefroy, once MP for County Longford, which sold for €4,000 after demanding a reserve price of between €3,000 and €5,000.

A painting entitled ‘A Stormy Seascape’ commanded €9,500, €1,500 over its maximum estimate of €8,000.

Elsewhere in the auction, a pair of Irish Regency simulated rosewood library arm chairs fetched €7,500 despite expecting to sell for at least €10,000. Lot 108 was a 200 year old George III, Irish mahogany dining table which sold for €7,200, narrowly under the estimated minimum price of €8,000. Another notable sale was the purchase of a George IV cutlery set, circa 1829 which consisted for 122 pieces of silverware including 42 dinner forks, 30 dinner spoons, 36 desert spoons, 12 teaspoons, 1 fish slicer and 1 soup ladle.
