Burglaries under investigation

There were several burglaries in County Longford last weekend which Gardai suspect may have been connected. On Saturday, February 6 last burglar(s) forced open the front door of a private house at Cornacarta in Ballymahon between the hours of 2pm and 8pm. They then stole jewellery valued at around €3,000 from the residence. The Longford Gardai have advised anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area to contact them or anyone who comes across a three stone diamond engagement ring inter

On the same day between the hours of 1pm and 11.45pm three houses were broken into in Lanesboro. The first incident happened at Thureen in Lanesboro and the culprits forced open a front window between 1pm and 9pm and ransacked the house. They did not steal anything in the raid.

The second incident happened at the Curragh Rua estate between the hours of 5pm and 8pm. Entry was gained via a rear door and the burglars stole a money box containing a small sum of cash. The third incident happened on the same estate between the hours of 2pm and 11.45pm. The front door of this private house was forced open and a bedroom was ransacked and several other rooms were searched. Nothing was taken in this incident but the Garda suspect that the burglars may have been searching for jewellery to steal.

There was a similar incident in Greenhall Lower in Newtowncashel between 4.40pm on Saturday last and 11.30am on Sunday last. The burglars gained entry to the property via a front window and searched the house thoroughly but nothing was stolen. The Gardai are also asking for the public's assistance on these incidents.
