Browne says CE places an aid to employment

2,000 additional positions on the Community Employment Scheme (CE) are to be provided for by government in the coming months. The move is being regarded as a positive step with regard to employment and towards the development and enhancement of local communities.

Fine Gael’s local area representative John Browne said that this latest move would bring the total number of CE places to 25,300, a development which he said, “would help jobseekers to become employment-ready and find a job, training or educational opportunity”.

“Community Employment plays a vital role for both jobseekers and their communities,” Cllr Browne said. “It provides work experience, including appropriate training, for jobseekers - which helps them to take up work on the open labour market by developing their skills, experience and confidence. The programme benefits the whole community.”

The Longford county councillor also said, that, the €1bn investment by the Department of Social Protection on activation programmes and other supports to help jobseekers acquire the work experience, skills and qualifications they need to return to full-time employment, “would be very beneficial”.
