Assault victim making ‘slow but steady’ progress

The medical condition of a Co Longford man, who sustained serious injuries during the course of a vicious assault in Carrick-on-Shannon over six weeks ago, is steadily improving.
Friends of Longford town native Mark O’Shea this week expressed hope the 40-year-old would continue to show signs of progression as doctors battle to restore the popular father of three to full health.
Mr O’Shea was attacked as he attempted to make his way home following a Christmas party night out with friends in the Co Leitrim town during the early hours of Sunday December 18.
A deputy manager with leading bookmakers Boyle Sports, in Roscommon town, Mr O’Shea sustained serious head injuries as a result of the incident which took place in the Townspark area of the Leitrim town shortly after 3am.
He was rushed to Sligo General Hospital before later being transferred to Dublin’s Beaumont Hospital, which specialises in head injuries.
Since the assault took place, the Killashee resident has remained in a critical condition with little or no sign of progress.
On Monday, nevertheless, it was revealed Mr O’Shea was starting to show slow, but steady evidence of improvement.
