Arva local news Sept 10
COMHALTAS: A meeting was held recently and a committee formed to set up a branch of Comhaltas Ceoltas Éireann to promote Irish music, dance and Gaelic language in Arva and surrounding area.
Music sessions will be held on the second Friday of each month, commencing in Breffni Arms on this Friday 10th Sept at 10.00pm. All musicians, singers and music lovers welcome.
GAA
Arva played Swanlinbar in Kingspan Breffni Park on Sunday last in the Hotel Kilmore Junior Championship Quarter-Final and suffered a crushing defeat. The players ju st did not do themselves justice on the day after all the work they put in over the year. The winners had the last 2 points to run out convincing winners on a score Swanlinbar 1-18 Arva 0-6. Arva Team – Darragh Fox, Sean Mc Manus, Philip Galligan, Shane Bouchier, Shane Finnegan, Dermot Mc Glade, Alan Barry, James Morris, Brian Fitzpatrick, Gavin Doyle (0-1), Stephen Ellis, Peter Morris (0-5), Kevin Bouchier, Brian Ellis. Subs – Conor Mc Entee, David Bouchier, Thomas Brady, Paul Brady. The second team will play Templeport in O'Connell Park, Drumlane on this Saturday - 11th September at 3.00 pm. in the Semi-Final in the Junior "D" Championship and we urge all supporters to attend and cheer on the players.
FOROIGE
As with many other activities September see's the return of Forige on this Friday 10th Sept at 7.00 pm in St Patrick's Hall, Arva for 2nd level students from 1st Year upwards. Parents should encourage all eligible students to attend and take part in the many activities they engage in.
COLLECTION
The Annual Church Gate Collection for St Christopher's Hospice, Cavan was taken up last weekend and in Arva the amount raised was 555.45 euro. The organisers wish to thank everyone who contributed so generously.
COMMUNITY ALERT
Funding has been secured from the Department of Community Rural and Gaelteach Affairs by Arva/Cornafean Community Alert. To date monitored alarms have been fitted to 22 homes and security lights and locks will be fitted in the coming weeks. If anyone requires a monitored alarm or security light or lock please contact a member of the Community Alert Committee.
AQUA AEROBICS
There are still a few places available in the Aqua Aerobics classes on Tuesday mornings 11.00 am to 12 noon and on Friday evenings 9.00 pm to 10.00 pm in the Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex. For more details contact Helen O' Hara on 049 4335 084
CYCLING TOUR
To raise funds for the Holy Family School, Cootehill the Breffni Wheelers are organising a Cycling Tour of Cavan on this Saturday - 11th September. Registration will take place at Cavan Rugby Club from 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm on Friday 10th and from 7.00 am to 9.00 am on Saturday 11th September. There are 3 different distances with the longest being 125 Km, one at 75 Km and the shortest at 25 Km. There is a registration fee of €20 per person and teams are welcome. There are a limited number of Sponsorship Cards available from Arva Football Club or go to www.breffniwheelers.com
ARVA ACTIVE AGE
The Arva Active Age Group will have their first game of Curling in St Patrick's Hall, Arva on Friday of next week 17th September at 10.00 am. All members are welcome to attend.
MEETING
The monthly meeting of the Arva Area Development Association will be held in St Patrick's Hall, Arva on next Monday 13th September at pm. All members are requested to attend and new members are always welcome.
