A nine-year-old girl, who survived a savage dog attack thanks to the intervention of her mother, underwent surgery on her wounded arm last Friday.

Lauren Kelly (9) recently received skin graft surgery in the days following her attack by a Rottweiler near her home in Abbeylara.

Lauren was with her younger sister and friend singing Christmas carols on the St. Stephen’s Day Wren, when a Rottweiler jumped a fence and attacked her.

“We are just so thankful she’s alive,” said Marcella Kelly (41).
