Gardening Club

The next meeting of Castlepollard Gardening Club will take place on Thursday next, October 29th, at 8.00pm in the Parish Community Centre, Church Street, Castlepollard. Guest speaker on the night will be Oliver Sheridan from Navan, who will give a presentation entitled “Love Your Garden, Love Your Trees”. Competition on the night will be for the nicest branch of leaves with Autumn colour. All are welcome.

The late Elizabeth Connolly

The death took place peacefully, though suddenly, on Sunday, September 20th, 2015, of Elizabeth (Lizzie) Connolly (nee Connolly), Oxfordshire, England, and formerly of Castlepollard, aged 86 years. The remains reposed at Gilsenan’s funeral home, Mullingar, on Thursday, October 1st, from 6.00pm, with removal to St. Michael’s Church, Castlepollard, arriving at 7.00pm. The funeral took place on Friday, October 2nd, following Requiem Mass at 1.30pm, and internment took place to St. Michael’s Cemetery, Castlepollard. The attendance at the removal, Mass and funeral was large and widely representative of the esteem in which the deceased was held.

The deceased had been predeceased by her husband William in 2008. she will be sadly missed not alone by her immediate family but by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She is survived by her daughter Liz, son-in-law Andy, granddaughter Laura (residing in England), other relatives and friends to whom deepest sympathy is extended.

The late Lilly Fagan

The entire local and wider North Westmeath community were saddened to learn of the death, which took place peacefully on Tuesday, October 20th, in the loving care of the Matron and staff of Maple Court Nursing Home, of Lilly Fagan, Finea Road, Castlepollard. The remains reposed at her niece Mary Fagan’s residence, Mooretown, Castlepollard, from 12.00 noon on Wednesday, October 21st. Removal took place on Wednesday evening to St. Michael’s Church, Castlepollard, arriving at 7.00pm, and the funeral took place following Requiem Mass on Thursday, October 22nd, at 11.00am. Internment took place afterwards to St. Michael’s Cemetery. The attendance at the removal, Mass and funeral was large and widely representative of the esteem in which the deceased was held. Lilly was in her 99th year, and had been a nurse by profession. She spent a large part of her working life in the United Kingdom, nursing there for nearly four decades until her return to Ireland. Of a kind and gentle disposition, she was particularly fond of dogs and cats. She will be sadly missed not alone by her immediate family, but by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Lilly is survived by her nephews, nieces, sister-in-law, other relatives and friends to whom deepest sympathy is extended

Wednesday 28th - Rosary and Benediction for those experiencing cancer and prayers for those who fins health and finance a trial. Thursday 29th - Rosary and Benediction for those experiencing cancer and prayers of gratitude and thanksgiving.
