The death has taken place of Richie Grogan in New York. Richie was husband of the late Josie (nee McCabe) from Augahnoron who passed away while on holidays at her native home in 1993. With their two children they were annual visitors to Aughanoran for many years. Born and reared in the Big Apple, the late Richie integrated into the local community as if he was one of our own. Richie got great pleasure meeting the locals in Keogh’s pub and enjoyed and fell into line with the yarns told by the likes of the late Mickey Kenny, Jimmy Reilly and many more. Richie is survived by his son Richie, daughter Betty Anne, grandchildren, brothers, sisters and in-laws to whom our condolences are extended.
It was with regret that the news of the death of Ted Leonard formerly of Aughanoran was received. Predeceased by his wife Sarah in 2010, both Ted and Sarah emigrated to London in the early fifties. There they settled down and reared a family of four sons and one daughter. A reliable and conscientious worker, Ted was involved in the building industry. Prior to Sarah’s passing many visits were made across the Irish sea over years. Some years back they built a holiday home in Sarah’s native Sallaghan, outside Loch Gowna. On Ted’s retirement, they spent many happy times there. Though away for many years, both Ted and Sarah kept in touch with the happenings around Gowna and Mullinalaghta. Their relatives and many friends will miss the chats and banter they always had with them. The late Ted is survived by his sons Frankie, Terry, Michael and Martin, daughter Geraldine, brothers Frank and Mel, sister Margaret, son-in-law, daughters -in- law, grandchildren and great grandson to whom our sympathy is extended. May the deceased rest in peace.
