Inny anglers

Results of Inny Anglers Lotto draw held on Friday, October 16 in the Hill Carrickboy for a jackpot of 8,400 euro. Numbers drawn were 12, 18, 23 and 28. There was no jackpot winner. Special draw winners were Adam, Jordan and Toyah Doherty and TJ Keenan, 40 euro each. This week’s draw takes place in the Rustic Inn, Abbeyshrule for a jackpot of 8,450 euro.

Card game

25 card games resume in Milly’s cottage on Thursday nights at 8pm. Everyone welcome.

Dinner dance

Longford regional pioneers dinner dance will be held in the Rustic Inn Abbeyshrule on Friday November 13th 2015. Dinner will be served at 9pm and tickets cost 25 euro. Further details from 087 9666370.


We extend deepest sympathy to Willie Connell, Sunfield and his family on the death of his sister, Annie at St Joseph’s Hospital, Longford last week. Annie lived in Killenboy all her life until her health failed. Annie was a regular contributor to all events in the area both spiritually and socially. Her removal took place to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Abbeyshrule on Tuesday and she was laid to rest following Funeral Mass in Abbeyshrule cemetery. May she rest in peace.


Results of GAA Lotto draw held on Monday, October 12 in Mitchell’s for a jackpot of 10,000 euro. Numbers drawn were 3, 9, 12, 27. There was no jackpot winner. Match three winners were John & Phil Slowey, Linda Boylan and John Kenny. This week’s draw took place in Connaughton’s, Rathowen. Results next week.

Community games AGM

Legan/ Ballycloughan Community Games annual general meeting took place on Thursday, 15th October. We were happy to see a big turn out and some new faces. The following committee was elected chairperson: Jimmy Doherty; secretary: Gemma Nolan; assistant secretaries: Geraldine Grzywach/ Sharon Coughlan; treasurer: Elaine Mitchell; assistant treasurer: Gerry Burke; PRO: Seamus O’Brien; Games director: Mickey Nolan and James Nulty; youth officer: Trisha Doherty/ Adam Doherty; childrens officer: Geraldine Grzywach. We would like to thank all involved and look forward to another successful year. Anyone who would like to get involved or have any questions regarding community games can contact any of the committee members. The county area and volunteer awards night takes place on Friday, October 23 in the Park House Hotel, Edgeworthstown. Tickets are 10 euro and can be bought at the door, a great line up of entertainment for everyone. There will be an overall county award for large areas and small ares and these areas will then go forward to the national areas and volunteer awards in Mullingar on Friday 28th November. There will also be a recognition award for each adult and youth volunteer nominated by their area. The overall adult and youth volunteer winner will also go forward to the national area and volunteer awards.

Bridge for beginners

A six week course in Bridge for beginners will start on Thursday night, October 22nd at 7.30pm in the GAA Clubhouse. The course is organised by Women Together and everyone is welcome.
