Success at Feiseanna
Pupils from the Mc Cartin SD reported great success at recent Feiseanna in Bray Co. Wicklow, Malahide, Co. Dublin and Crossmolina Co. Mayo, the successful pupils included Louise Cafferty, Fenagh, Aoife Cafferty Fenagh, Cillian Cullen, Aughnasheelin, Lisa Gill, Cloone, Clara O Kelly, Drumeela, Darragh Gunn, Aughnasheelin, Rose McLoughlin, Fenagh, Luke Murphy, Killeshandra, Kate Gilheany, Fenagh, Kaithlin Gray, Gortletteragh and Alannah Gunn, Aughnasheelin. Congratulations to the pupils on their continued success.
When Carrigallen and Drumreilly meet in any grade, the followers are always assured of a well-contested game. When the senior fifteen met in the Mimna Memorial trophy game on Sunday last in Carrickmakeegan the fare served up in a sporting encounter was never less than entertaining. A fit and focused Drumreilly dominated the majority of the first half exchanges, and following scores courtesy of Nigel Maguire (0-1), Brian Fee (0-3) Cormac Maguire (1-3), James Holahan (0-1), and were in a1-8 to 0-3 comfort zone at the interval.
Carrigallen scores had come from the boots of Eamonn O Malley, Seán McCabe and Alex McFarlene. On the resumption Carrigallen were more fired up but not enough of their excellent approach work translated into scores. They tagged on five points, while Drumreilly, despite some erratic shooting, did enough to stretch their lead with four scores. PS: Christopher Mimna, brother of the late Geraldine and nephew of the late Anthony addressed the crowd at the end before handing over to Geraldine’s son David, who presented the cup to Seán Fee. The takings on the gate will go to the Oncology Unit, Cavan Hospital.

A Busy Week
Active is the appropriate word to describe the schedule of Drumreilly Active Age Group during the past week. The week began with a St. Valentine’s Day Lunch. in Mitchell’s Carrigallen to partake of a pleasant repast. On Pancake Tuesday night a number of the Group travelled to Templeport, where they enjoyed the cuisine and thedancing. Our Group hosted the South Leitrim Forum on Wednesday last in the Community Centre. Members of the Ck on Shannon, Annaduff-Drumsna, Gortletteragh, Cloone-Aughavas, Ballinamore Carrigallen and Drumreilly Groups attended. The following officers were elected: Chairman: Seán Reynolds, Fenagh; Vice-Chairperson: Eileen Ward, Carrigallen; Secretary: Frances O Reilly, Drumreilly; P.R.O.: Pat Flanagan The weekly meeting took place on Wednesday night. Another date for the diaries is March 9th when our friends in the Killeshandra Group will host a party in the newly-refurbished Community Centre.
Recalling February 1996
Diocesan Catechist Fr. John Phair carried out the annual test in Religious Knowledge in St. Mary’s N.S. Drumlea. It was “key of the door” time for Edel Conefrey and Catherine Reilly. Tony Lunney, John McKeon, Raymond Holahan and Mattie Fee were member of the Carrigallen V.S. panel when Carrigallen beat Easkey, Sligo in the Connacht semi-final. Declan Maxwell at midfield and James Holahan (right half forward), starred for St. Felim’s first year team which recorded a 10-10 to 3-3 victory over Ck on Shannon. Mary McKeon collected silver in the Minor Girls 1000 metres, and Evonne Maxwell, Ruth McLoughlin, Denise Murray, Linda Tighe and Aileen Cassidy were the members of the Ballinamore team which also won silver in the Senior Girls 2000m event in the Cross Country provincial finals in Beleek, Ballina. The late Mrs. Annie Cullinane, Aughavas scooped the £1,000 Jackpot at Drumreilly Bingo. The death took place in England of Corrawallen-born Mr. Tom Campbell resident. R.I.P.
