U-21: Hard luck to St Joseph’s who were defeated by Watty Grahams, Glen, Co Derry Final of the Bank of Ireland Paddy Mc Larnon U-21 Ulster Tournament on Sunday last on a score of 2-11 to 0-7. The players gave it their all on a very cold and windy day but they just could not get to grips with the winners. Goals win games and Watty Grahams took theirs but St Joseph’s were desperately unlucky to have two goal chances cleared. The loss of their Captain, Kevin Bouchier midway through the first half didn’t help their cause and we have to give great credit to Ciaran Brady who played Trench Cup on Saturday in Cork and played his heart out. They are a great bunch of players and we will see more of them in the years ahead. On behalf of the supporters we thank them and their Management for their efforts – well done everyone.
League: Arva started their league campaign on Saturday evening last with a first round clash in the Breffni League against neighbours Killeshandra in Michael Cully Park but fielding a very youthful team they were no match for their more seasoned opposition. The final score was 2-14 to 0-7 which probably does not reflect the effort of the Arva players on duty. It’s another step up for Arva coming from Division 3 to Division 2 last year and now they are Division 1B. Short the services of a number of first choice players it proved too much for the home side. Killeshandra hit 7 points in a row with 2 from Austin Fitzpatrick and 5 from Declan Mc Kiernan before Shane Hamilton opened the Arva account in the 19th minute. Bryan Mc Entee added another 3 minutes later but Mc Kiernan and Alan Brady replied before Cian Sweeney hit the net in the 29th minute for the first of his brace. Fergal Mc Glade closed the scoring to leave it 1-9 to 0-3 at the interval. The visitors resumed with points from Thomas Reilly and Mc Kiernan before Peter Morris replied for Arva after 42 minutes. Sweeney and Raymond Daly exchanged points in the 15th and 17th minutes but Killeshandra hit a goal (Sweeney) and 2 points (Mc Kiernan and Sean Mc Kiernan) before Arva closed the scoring with a point each from Danny Ellis and Peter Morris to leave it 2-14 to 0-7 at the long whistle. Arva team and scorers – Danny Conneely, Thomas Brady, Darren Gray, Stephen Ellis, Shane McEntee, Dermot Mc Glade, Peter Conneely, Fergal Mc Glade (0-1), Bryan Mc Entee (0-1), Peter Morris (0-2), Raymond Daly (0-1), Oisín Sheridan, Shane Hamilton (0-1), David Cassidy, Danny Ellis (0-1).
