The Abbeyshrule Canoe Club are busy planning for the new club season which kicks off on the 1st of April ‘15. 2014 was another successful year for the club and with your support this year will be even better. To kick things off the club AGM will take place on Monday the 16th of March at 8pm in the Rustic Inn, Abbeyshrule. All club members are asked to attend. Membership for the year is now due and will be taken up on the night. The AGM is also a great opportunity for non-members to find out about the club activities and the benefits of club membership. Membership is open to adults and children from 7 years upwards. On the training front the club will be running a ‘Come and Try’ session at Easter where non-members can come along and try out canoeing in Abbeyshrule Harbour. These sessions are very popular and if interested please contact any of the committee to reserve your place. Following the ‘Come and Try’ sessions the club will be running a Level 1 training course at the end of April followed by a Level 2 course in May. Other activities planned for later in the year include the popular Kids Play sessions as well as club trips to the Shannon Blueway, Clondra Loop and Lough Ree. Full details on all activities will be published on the club Facebook page once they have been finalized. The ever popular Abbeyshrule 5 & 10 km Run/Walk will also take place in early June. Death of Frances Lennon
The death took place last week of one of our well known parishioners, Frances Lennon, Curracreehan following a long illness. Frances was a very quiet respected and friendly lady and will be remembered for her friendly smile. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her, especially her sons Joseph and Gerard and her daughter Bernie, other relatives and friends to whom we extend our sincere sympathies. Frances remains were removed from her son Joseph’s residents to the local church in Carrickedmond on Saturday evening last and the burial took place to the local cemetery on Sunday following the funeral mass. May she now rest in peace.
