Division 1 Game
The original fixture of this game between near neighbours Drumreilly and Aughawillan took place in Aughawillan Park on Saturday, July 19th. A thunderstorm summarily brought the game to a close ten minutes before the end, when the visitors enjoyed a 1-6 to 0-7 lead. The re-arranged fixture took place in Aughawillan in ideal conditions on last Saturday, when a superbly fit Aughawillan reversed the result, collecting both League points on a score of 0-12 to 0-6. From the throw-in Drumreilly struggled to gather any momentum against the cohesion and hunger of the hosts, and ended the half in arrears 0-6 to 0-4, their scores having come from Conor Gaffney (2pts.) and a point
each courtesy of the Maguire brothers Nigel and Cormac. Early in the second half they were succeding better in the possession stakes, but failed to translate any advantage into much- needed scores. A defence-penetration solo from defence by Seán Fee yielded a penalty, but Drumreilly failed to convert. In the last quarter free-taker Nigel Maguire knocked over two points. The game petered out leaving Aughawillan leading by six points. The Drumreilly lineout was as follows: Mick McGirl, Anthony Holahan, John McKeon, Ronan McCartin, Donal McCabe, Seán Fee, Graeme Taylor, Declan Maxwell, Ollie Maguire, Brian Fee, James Holahan, Cormac Maguire (0-1), Conor Gaffney (0-2), Frank Holahan and Nigel Maguire (0-3). Sub: Fergal Mitchell.
