The death of Mrs Evelyn Mills, Drumhart, Derylane which occurred recently at Cavan General Hospital was received with great sadness by all who knew her. Evelyn Sandford was born in 1927 in Lurgan, Co Armagh and was one of four girls. Her sister Leila died in 2009, Mary died four weeks ago and the last of the family Phyllis lives in Belfast. Evelyn worked as a nurse in Manchester in the war years and came to work in a nursing home in Belfast, where she met her husband David Mills. They were married in 1949 and moved to Cavan. They had three children, Davina (who died a few years ago), Billy and Ruth. She helped David on the farm and really loved farm life. She was a great cook and when the children were young she also did some private nursing. Her husband David died in 1983 and she retired from farming soon afterwards but led a very active life until a few years ago. She loved gardening and flowers and loved to have visitors to her home. She would always have a cup of tea for anyone who called. Evelyn was very independent and lived in her own home until a couple of years ago when she needed constant nursing care and moved to Esker Lodge Nursing Home, Cavan. The family would like to thank the staff for their dedicated care. We extend our sympathy to her son, Billy in England, daughter Ruth and son in law Bob in Australia, grandchildren Rebecca, Gareth, William, Lynda, Edwin and Craig, great grandchildren and her sister Phyllis. Her remains were removed to Arva Parish Church for Funeral Service conducted by Dean Raymond Ferguson, Dean of Kilmore, Rev Hazel Hicks, Priest in Charge, Arva, Ms Frances Goode, Diocesan Reader while her daughter Ruth read the Lesson. Burial took place in Derrylane Cemetery.

Oliver Burke

There was widespread regret at the news of the sudden death of Mr Oliver Burke, Roscommon which occurred at his residence on Sunday, 4th May. He was married to Anna Rogan, formerly from Lacken, Arva and led the Prayers of the Faithful at the Months Memory Mass for Jim Rogan in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Arva just eight days previously. On behalf of the community we extend sincere sympathy to Anne, his sons Liam and Oliver and his extended family
