Creative Ardagh are delighted to announce the visit by the President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins to Ardagh Heritage and Creativity Centre on Friday, 14th March. Guests are invited to attend at 10am. President Higgins will tour the art room to get a flavour of the variety of courses provided by Creative Ardagh. He will then meet members of the newly established Creative Longford craft network in the Craft Gallery and members of the Ardagh/Moydow Reaching Out group in the Heritage exhibition area. This will be followed by a tree planting ceremony in the garden and speeches in the marquee. Afterwards guests will get a chance to mingle with President Higgins while refreshments are served. Those who attend on the day are welcome to join in a heritage-based art workshop after the President has departed.
Credit Union Quiz
Leinster Regional Credit Union Quiz was held in the Community Centre, Moate on Friday, 28th February the following pupils from St. Mel’s National School came second after tie-break, Sarah Forde, Dylan Fay, Eoin Fallon, Melissa O’Kane and Daniel Hayden, they now go forward to the RDS on the 6th April and we wish them the best of luck.
25 Card Drive
Scoil Bhride Parents Association will hold their Annual 25 Card Drive on Friday, 21st March at 8.30pm in Scoil Bhride, Glen. Everyone is welcome, guaranteed to be an enjoyable night. 300 euro in prizes to be won. Free raffle and refreshments will be served.

As the bowls season is coming to an end and the Westmeath League now finished, well done to our A team who won the League with 50.5 points out of a possible 60, players were Marie Farrell, Dean Victory, Martin Farrell, Sean Farrell, Donal Keenan, Sean Powell, Subs used: Danny Keenan, Liam Victory, Brendan Quaine and Pat Hayes. Our B team came a creditable 4th, well done for their first year in the League. On Sunday last, 2nd March the Rinks was held in Streete, Ardagh had two teams present, well done to the team of Marie Farrell, Dean Victory, Danny Keenan, Martin Farrell who defeated two Streete teams and Castlepollard to get to the final and lost out to Tyrellspass on a score of 9 shots to 8. A very good day was had by all at the Streete venue. On Tuesday next, the 11th March, our team play Streete B in Streete in the Basil Sullivan Memorial Cup. All games are won on shots, not points. On Thursday next we are taking names for our doubles and singles for 2014. Welcome back to Laddie Keenan on his return to the bowls club.
Local lads John Kelly, Brendan Noone, Emmet Keenan, David Farrell, Dessie Murphy and Cathal Whitney are holding a table quiz in aid of Focus Ireland. The table quiz is being held in the Community Centre in Ardagh on Good Friday, the 18th April, at 9pm. Adults €40 per table. Juveniles €30 per table. Raffle and spot prizes on the night. Art Competition: All children in the parish turning age 7 up to 15 years are most welcome to enter the annual Community Games Art competition this Friday, (March 14) at 6pm in the Ardagh Community Centre, cost €2 to enter. Please bring all your own pencils and colours, we will supply the paper. When you finish your masterpiece then you can stay on for Friday evening youth activities, 7-8pm in the main hall. The lads put in weeks of indoor training to prepare and thanks goes to Padraig Smyth and Michael Hayden for organising teams this year. Handwriting: James Gillen, Saoirse McLoughlin & Sarah Keenan will be doing their lovely handwriting at the County Final on Wednesday, March 19 in Ballymahon. The next activities coming up are tag rugby, outdoor 11-a-side U12 Soccer, U13 Cross-Country (1200m), the Mixed Distance Relay for U12 & U14, Swimming and Skittles U-12, U-14, U-16. Give your names to Eamon O’Kane and Michael Hayden ASAP to be in these events\ on these teams. Tag Rugby: AMG has entered teams in both U11 & U14 Tag Rugby, mixed teams for girls and boys. This was a very popular event last year so be sure you give your name to Eamon O’Kane if you want to be in the competition. Training begins this Thursday March 13 indoors at Edgeworthstown Hall at 6:30pm. County Final scheduled for April 26 at the Longford Rugby Club so hopefully all will get to put their training to good use.
The Annual Ardagh\Moydow\Glen Community Games Church gate collection will take place the weekend of 22\23 March. This collection goes directly to the Community Games activities that take part in our parish giving opportunities for the children to progress on to County and National level. So far this year AMG has 5 teams going forward from winning at County level to upcoming Leinster rounds: U12 Chess, U16 Chess, U15 Girls Badminton, U10 Girls Indoor Soccer and U13 Boys Table Tennis. 3 children will be taking part in the County Handwriting Final and 6 children in the County Talent Final.
