There was a deep sense of sadness over the area with news of the death of Mrs Margaret (Madge) Bouchier, Ardross, Arva which occurred at Castlemanor Nursing Home, Cavan on Tuesday 25th February. A member of the very popular Morris family from Drumcarey. Madge came to work in Morris Drapery in Arva where she met and in 1948 married her husband Con Bouchier. It may be hard for the younger generation to realise that at that time Morris and Bouchier were big Drapery stores employing many staff and carrying huge stocks. At that time there was anything around 20 staff in Bouchier’s where all range of men’s and ladies clothing, footwear were stocked and they also had a bedding department. Madge immersed herself in the business and proved herself both extremely competent and popular. In her spare time Madge was a top class Badminton player and later on she joined County Cavan Golf Club. Her sporting prowess shone here also and she went on to become a Single Figure Handicap Golfer while in 2000 Madge served as Lady Captain of the Club. She was a member of the Arva Apostolic Society which raised much needed funding for the foreign missions and also made Vestments for the Priests on the missions. Madge was a member of the Altar Sodality and both made and cleaned the Altar cloths. Along with the other members she looked after the Flower arranging on the Altar and made sure it was always clean and tidy. She was a member of the Arva Conference of St Vincent de Paul, Arva I.C.A. and was one of the organisers of the first Senior Citizens Party. Madge and Con were fantastic dancers and won many awards over the years and even in her 80’s she would attend dancing weekends with her sisters in Westport. In 1981 Madge and Con moved into their new home “Ardross” in Drumalt where Madge indulged her passion for flowers, shrubs etc in a beautiful setting looking out on the lake. There was a constant stream of mourners calling to Ardross where Madge reposed until her removal to the Church of the Sacred Heart where she was received by Rev Dan Sheridan P.P. Killeshandra with Rev P.J. Fitzpatrick P.P. Lough Gowna and Rev Kevin Fay, Cortober, Arva and Lavey. Her Requiem Mass was Concelebrated with Rev Donald Hannon C.C. Arva the Chief Celebrant assisted by Rev Colm Hurley, Killeshandra and Rev Eamonn Bredin former C.C. Arva while Fr Hannon officiated at the graveside. Madge was predeceased y her husband Con in 2006 and is survived by her sons Liam and Mel in Arva, John in Dublin, daughters Mrs Mary Rigg, Canada, Mrs Paula Bouchier, Newfoundland, Mrs Bernadine (Ben) Blease, London, sisters Mrs Sheila Manning, Ahascaragh, Galway, Mrs Gladys Doherty, Limerick, grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, nephews, nieces and many friends to all of whom we extend sincere sympathy.
