Rath Mhuire Resource Centre
Learning Sessions: Computer/Mobile Phone - Learning Sessions: Everybody is really enjoying these and the feedback from the various groups is wonderful. This is an excellent intergenerational activity- many thanks to the students, staff and all those concerned in Cnoc Mhuire, for organising same. Next date is this Wednesday 12 March at 11.30 am. Moatsiders Active Age: Our next meeting will be on Thursday 13 March and we will be travelling to the Galilee Centre in Boyle, pick up at Rath Mhuire at 10.30am. Granard Men’s Social Club: The club is getting very busy with a range of activities being organised for the coming year. Our next meeting date is Tuesday 19 March and we will be joining up with our friends in Colmcille and the Dolmen Centre for dinner and an afternoon at the movies in the Haggard in Dromard.
Dolmen Centre: All Dolmen groups are well underway for 2014 (Dolmen Daycare- Dolmen Failte Active Age & North Longford Men’s Club) and for any information on the range of activities and services which take place in the Dolmen Centre, or for any of the above activities at Rath Mhuire Centre, please contact Jackie or Lucy at 043-6686309. Transport is available for all groups.
A quiz will be held in Keogh’s Bar, Mullinalaghta on Saturday, 15 March at 8.30pm in aid of Northern Gaels Club. Tables of four €40 or €10 per person. Valuable raffle prizes. Your support will be appreciated. Supper will be served.
On Sunday, 16 March, a Tractor run will leave from Creegan’s in Bunlahy and proceed to Granard, Abbeylara, Lisryan, Edgeworthstown, Ballinalee and returning to Bunlahy. Registration which will cost 20 euro, will start at 10am and continue until 11.30 am and the run will leave at Midday. All proceeds from the run will be shared between Suicide Awareness and Ballymore Football Club and all support will be greatly appreciated. For further information contact Noel on 0851743279.
Granard Guild at their recent meeting had Ms Breda Dunne from the Alzheimer Society of Ireland, Longford Branch give a very informative talk on all stages of the disease and the help and support that is available through the Society. Tai Chi continues in the Credit Union meeting room on this Thursday evening 13 March at 8.15pm. Everyone is looking forward to travelling to the Celebration Dinner in Newcastle House Ballymahon on Thursday 20 March for the presentation of certificates by National President Liz Wall. Bus will depart from the Community Centre Barrack Street Granard time to be confirmed.

Plans are in place for the Easter Festival on Saturday 19 April and Sunday 20 April. The festival kicks off on Saturday morning at 11am with a historical walk of Granard led by local historian Jimmy Donohoe. Jimmy’s tour is both very enjoyable and informative as he holds a wealth of knowledge about Granard’s history. On Saturday afternoon at 3pm the gruelling 5K Walk/Jog/Run will start at Kiernan Milling! Entry is €10 per adult and €5 for U16 participants. Prizes are as follows Men 1st €100, 2nd €50, 3rd €25, 1st U-16 Ladies 1st €100, 2nd €50, 3rd €25, 1st U16 . Registration will take place from 2pm at Kiernan Milling. On Easter Sunday commencing at 2pm there will be fabulous entertainment for children and adults including fire eating, stilt walking and unicyclist from Corvenieos Entertainment. There will also be face painting and balloon modelling. The parade is expected to pass through Main Street at 2.30pm. The Madagascar circus will be in Granard after the parade with appearances by Marty the dancing Zebra, Alex the friendly Lion and Melman the hypochondriac Giraffe! Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy the fun! With such a variety of free, live entertainment there is something for everyone at the Easter Festival in Granard!

Frank Brad, Barragmore, Drumlish, late of Springtown and Tromra Road, Granard, died following a long illness at Mullingar hospital on Saturday, 8 March. Removal took place from Our Lady’s Manor, Edgeworthstown on Monday evening to St. Bernard’s Church, Abbeylara. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday at noon followed by burial in Carragh Cemetery. May he rest in peace. Reunited with his beloved twin brother, Brendan. Sympathy is extended to all the family circle and many friends.
