When complimenting Northern Gaels on winning the Minor ‘A’ Championship Final on the previous Sunday in last week’s notes I omitted the names of Eoghan Keegan and Aaron Earley. Both lads are top players. I apologise to both and wish them long and successful careers on and off the field of play.
Due to renovations Granard Branch Library has relocated to Rath Mhuire Resource Centre at Barrack Street, Granard. It will operate each Friday from 10am to 5pm.
St Vincent de Paul Shop
‘New 2 U’ shop at Market Street, Granard is open every Friday from 10am to 6pm and on Saturdays from 11am – 6pm. It will also open on the first Tuesday of each month from 10am – 6pm.
The Longford Branch of the Alzheimer’s Association of Ireland wish to thank all who contributed to their recent church gate collection at St Columba’s Church. By your generosity €270 was raised for this worthy cause.
The committee of St Vincent de Paul, Granard will host a Fashion Show on Tuesday, October 22 in the Community Centre, Granard. The show will commence at 8pm and it promises to be a fun night for both men and women. There will be a cheese and wine reception followed by the show itself which will see many young (and not so young) people from Granard, Abbeylara and Mullinalaghta areas take to the stage.
St Columba’s GFC held their weekly lotto draw in Keogh’s on Thursday, October 10. Winning numbers were 1, 8, 22, 29 with the jackpot of €3,650 remaining intact. As part of their fundraising activities the local ladies football club are holding a weekly draw based on the bonus ball in the main draw of the national lottery. Sheets are on sale in local shops or are available from any club member. Match the bonus ball in Saturday’s night main draw and you will earn yourself €20. Lines are just €2. Six monthly tickets are available for €50 by contacting Marie Matthews. Your support would be very much appreciated each week. Winning number from the draw on Saturday last was 18. Lauren Burke was a winner.
Mullinalaghta ladies footballers are collecting Lucozade bottle caps as advertised on television. This will enable the girls to get some free gear for the club. We urge all players, families, relations and friends to support this venture. Caps can be given in at all training sessions, matches, Cloonagh PO, and to any player or committee member. However October is the deadline to participate in this project. It is important to start collecting immediately.

Mullahoran – Mullinalaghta Gun Club will hold their annual raffle in the Hideaway Bar, Cloncovid on Friday, November 1. First prize is a Plasma Widescreen TV. The holder of the second ticket drawn will receive €200 with €100 for third place. There will also be numerous other spot prizes. Tickets are on sale in all local shops and from committee members at €5 each. Your support would be greatly appreciated.
Congratulations are extended to Eric and Teresa Sullivan on the the birth of their first child a baby girl to be named Zoe. The happy event took place at Cavan General Hospital on Saturday, October 12. We extend the same compliments to David Lee and Nicola Burke on the arrival of their baby son to be called Darragh. We are delighted to report that both mothers and their babies are in excellent health.
