Sympathy is extended to Sheila Simpson, Mulrick, Loch Gowna on the death of her uncle, Tom Walshe, Kiltyclough, Ballinalee who died suddenly on Tuesday, 8th October at Mullingar General Hospital. His remains were removed from his brother Peter’s residence Kiltyclough on Friday and following funeral mass in Holy Trinity Church, Ballinalee, burial took place in St Emers Cemetery, Ballinalee. May he rest in peace.

Community alert meeting on Thursday 24th October in St Brigid’s Community Centre, Loch Gowna at 9pm. It is important that everyone attends this meeting as there have been a spate of break ins and robberies in the locality recently.

Angling Club

North Longford Angling Club are having a pike competition on Sunday 20th October at Gulladoo lake from 11am to 5pm.


Heartiest congratulations are extended to the Ballinagh team and their management on winning the 2013 county final on Sunday last in Breffni Park. Well done to all concerned.

Fashion show

SVP Granard Fashion Show on Tuesday 22nd October in the Community Centre, Granard at 8pm. This night promises to be a fun night for both men and women. There will be a cheese and wine reception followed by the show which will see many people from the Granard Abbeylara and Mullinalaghta areas take to the stage. All items modeled will be for sale on the night. Come along bring a friends and join in the fun while supporting a good cause.

This free scheme is available to persons who meet the following criteria. Own and live in their own home and that the house was built before 2006. The owner is in receipt of one of following fuel allowance as part of the national fuel scheme or jobseekers allowance for over six months and has a child under the age of 7 years or family income supplement. Results of fund raising fishing competition in association with Hughie Brady, Arva and Our Ladys Children Hospital, Crumlin, fished on Sunday 13th October on Derries Lake. 1st: Joe McDermott, Longford; 2nd: Pat Healy, Dromod; 3rd: David Egan, Dromod; 4th: Eric & Daniel Belgium; 5th: Tony McManus, Loughduff. 20 boats participated.
