Community Games: Excellent success at the National Community Games Finals: 4 children from Ardagh\Moydow\Glen brought home All-Ireland medals on Sunday. This is an outstanding achievement as the standard of excellence in every event held at the National Finals is extremely high. Thanks go to the adult volunteers who are very generous with their time and give so much to the children to get to this National platform: David Hoysted, Eamon O’Kane, Paddy McPhillips, Riona Lynch and Leslie Finnan all deserve a round of applause! Maryann Lynch wins 3rd place: Well done to 12 year old Maryann Lynch who was a most deserving bronze medal winner in the Solo Singing Finals. She sang ‘The Travelling Soldier’ by the Dixie Chicks and really moved the audience with her confident performance singing and playing guitar. In all the years that AMG has entered the County Community Games Talent Competition Maryann was the first winner at County level for solo singing and she topped it off with an All-Ireland 3rd place. Saoirse McLoughlin took part in U10 Girls Handwriting. Group Singing: Adam Callan, Gareth Mulleady, Maryann Lynch, Katie Quinn, Aisling Farrell & Katie Lynch took part in the Group Singing Finals performing 2 songs in Athlone, ’Chasing Cars’ and ‘Little Talks’. Thanks to their mentor Riona Lynch for preparing them. 1st place honours go to the County Longford U12 Boys Mixed Distance Relay Team who won gold with an impressive 50m lead in their final last Sunday at AIT. The team of Cian McPhillips and Brendan Finnan, both from Ardagh, Daire McManus (Longford South),Thomas Ivel (Longford North) and sub Cathal Farrell (Ardagh) gave an amazing team performance to win a very rare Gold medal for Ardagh and Longford. The race is cross country style on a grass course, Runners 1 & 3 do 600m each with a steep incline and sharp turn, and Runners 2 & 4 do a 400m loop on flat ground. The team got out in front from the start and with every single runner giving 110% they maintained their domination and continued to gain on their lead in every lap. This was an EXCELLENT achievement in athletics at the National level! Bravo to Paddy McPhillips and all the parents who supported the team. Melissa O’Kane was a sub on the U 12 girls Mixed Distance Relay team. She & Cathal Farrell ran in the subs race on Sunday morning both doing the 400m lap on a team with Mayo & Galway runners.
