Ballinagh

MRS MARY KATE MAHON: There was widespread sadness throughout the district and among family and countless friends as news spread of the death at the home of her son Pauric and family at Garrymore Ballinagh of Mrs Mary Kate Mahon. Aged 97 years deceased who passed away peacefully following a short illness was a member of the highly respected Murray family Drumbreanlis Corrigan. Mary Kate was a highly respected member of her community. A had working and industrious lady she was a kind friendly and helpful neighbour who was always available to assist any person in need of assistance. Blessed with a deep religious faith Mary Kate was a daily visitor to St Michaels Church Potahee where she assisted at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and all religious services. Born in 1916 as world war 1 raged across Europe while here in Ireland the Easter Rising was at its peak. She came into this world at a very memorable period in the history of our country. Her passing is widely mourned. Predeceased by her husband Patrick she is survived by her son Pauric, daughters Kathleen, daughter in law Geraldine sister Kathleen grand children nephews nieces relatives and countless friends to whom I extend the sympathy of our community. There was a very large attendance at the removal of the remains to St Michaels Church Potahee while the funeral which was of extremely large dimensions and a fitting tribute to the esteem with which the deceased and her family are held throughout the region took place following con-celebrated mass to the family burial ground. May her gentle soul rest in peace.
