CONGRATULATIONS: We extend congratulations to Anrew Farrell, who recieved Sports Person of the Year award, Ballymahon Vocational School.
OVERHEAD CABLES: All the overhead wires in the village have at last been removed. The ESB wires from the bottom of Newrow hill and the phone wires from Kearney’s crossroads to the end of the village are now underground.
Lights: The new lighting columns are now traffic blue. This colour has proven safer for pedestrians and cyclists than black. This blue blends in with the many gates, doors and signs already painted blue in the village and also the lovely new church sign. The Newtowncashel entrance signs that the Co Council installed last year are also this blue. This change in the lighting is the largest project undertaken by the Tidy Towns committee in the last 35 years.
COLLECTION: The organisers of last weekend’s Church gate collection in aid of St. Christophers wish to thank all those who supported it so generously.
CASHEL G.A.A.: Cashel G.A.A. held their Fundraising Draw last Sunday night the 2nd of June, in Leavy’s Pub, Foigha. Full results will appear in next week’s local notes.
CHURCH RAID: The Candle Shrine in our local Church, was raided, probably on Thursday the 16th of May. Also taken were a crystal cross and bowl, property of a parent and left on a side altar in the context of First Holy Communnion preperation. The incident is the first of this nature in the Church, and indeed a very unsettling development. If anybody has any information on this, however small, please contact the relevant authorities.
DEATH: We extend our sympathy to the family and friends of Marie Lappin nee Sinnott, Gravesend, Kent, and formerly Cornadough, who died on 23rd of March, and whose ashes were interred in Cashel Cemetery on last Sunday week. May her Soul Rest in Peace.
Baby girl: Congratulations to Pauric Farrell (Tipper) and his wife Lisa on the birth of their baby girl recently.
