Cemetery Saturday: Weather permitting Mass will be celebrated in Mullinalaghta Cemetery on Saturday 6th July at 7.00p.m. This will be followed by blessing of the graves. Please inform relatives and friends away from home. All are requested to tidy up plots and not discard rubbish nearby. Please note change of time for this date.

Ladies Footballers: As part of their fundraising activities the local ladies football club are holding a weekly draw based on the bonus ball in the main draw of the national lottery. Sheets are on sale in local shops or are available from any club member. Match the bonus ball in Saturday’s night draw you will earn yourself €20. Lines are just €2. Six monthly tickets are available for €50 by contacting Marie Matthews. Your support would be very much appreciated each week. Winning number from draw on Saturday 1st June was 18.
Field Day: Abbeylara Parish Committee will hold their Annual Field Day plus the Gathering on Sunday 9th June. Always a very enjoyable day for all the family, many interesting events are planned for this year. Modified Pro Stock and Super Farm Tractors will be appearing on the day. Farm tractors are welcome for competition and prizes. Please note weigh in starts at 9.30 a.m. At 12 noon a vintage parade and display of cars, tractors and motor bikes will take place. For information on this event contact 087 9671231. There will be Midget Car Racing in association with Motorsport Ireland. Competitions will include tractor / trailer reversing, dog show, wellie throwing, donkey derby., best dressed lady and much more. Children are catered for with bumper cars, face painting, fun fair with Ireland’s top magician. Admission is only €10. This includes free car parking. Lord of the Dring: On Saturday 27th July Longford Triathlon Club are inviting people to participate in a community race on that day. It will consist of 750m Swim, 20km Cycle and 5km Run. The swim will commence at Dring shore. The cycle will go through Mullinalaghta via Gowna to Aughnacliffe and back to Mullinalaghta. Scenic Derrycasson wood is the venue for the run. Your support for all the competitors would be very much appreciated. Please cheer them on as they pass your door. Anyone wishing to take part in a relay team are requested to text Mark on 0861799154. Bereavement: The sympathy of the community is extended to Margaret Matthews, Toome on the death of her sister Nellie Brosnan which occurred in England. Formerly from Middletown she emigrated many years ago. Nellie always kept in contact with the happenings in her native area and was a regular visitor to Loughduff. Predeceased by her son Thomas she is also survived by her husband Maurice, son Myles, brothers Fr. Bernard, Myles and sister Teresa. May she rest in peace.
