Abbeylara Field Day: Abbeylara Field Day takes place this Sunday June 9. The day kicks off at 9.30 am sharp with the weigh in for any farm tractors wishing to enter for the competition & prizes. The Vintage Parade & display of cars, tractors & motor bikes will pass through the village at 12 noon. Many floats have entered, but there is still time to join up if you wish to do so call Pat on 086 8855189 or T.J on 086 8848736. On Sunday from 1pm onwards, there will be lots of fabulous entertainment for children and adults including a Funfair, Donkey Derby, Bouncing Castles, Go Karts, Bumping Cars/rides, Face Painting, Wellie Throwing, a Dog Show and also Midget Car Racing. There will be also be a prize for the best dressed lady. There will food stalls and stands on the day boasting an array of home baking so all palettes will be catered for. There will be free parking on the day and disabled parking close to the enterance of the field (Permit holders only). All exhibitiors will receive a momento and a meal voucher. Admission on the day is €10 and children are free. All proceeds are in aid of our Parish Funds, therefore your support would be very much appreciated. So with such a variety of live entertainment there is something for everyone at the Abbeylara Field Day!

World Youth Day 2013: Bright Lights 2013 will take place over the World Youth Day weekend in the beautiful grounds of Aylesford Priory, Faversham, Kent, home to the very welcoming Carmelite Community, with large screen link-up with World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro, live bands, catechesis, guest speakers and more; this carnival atmosphere will be the next best thing to being in Rio this summer! It is a great opportunity for young people in our parish to experience youth ministry at such an amazing event. It is offered to young people form 17-30 years. Dates are form Friday 26 July to Tuesday 30 July at a cost of €600 approximately. This includes transport to and from the airport, transport while in the UK, flights, registration, accommodation (indoor camping), meals throughout the Bright Lights weekend, also one night stay in a 4* Hotel, theatre tickets and travel insurance. Country Markets: Granard Country Markets are delighted to announce that they now have Slimming World Meals available as well as their usual Bread, Cakes, Jams, Crafts and Firewood. The Market is open every Friday morning from 8-30 am to 11.00 am in the Market house.
Community Diary: A Diary is available at Granard Area Action Group office to enable local voluntary groups and fundraising events to log their forthcoming activities for the year so as to help co-ordinate events successfully and to avoid duplication where possible.
Rural Transport Programme: We would always welcome new passengers on board the services; it is open to ALL AGE GROUPS, with FTP holders travelling Free. Single Fare is €3 and Return is €5, for under 65 years. For our local region of Granard/Abbeylara, there are 2 Friday services into Granard = via Robinstown – Abbeylara – Creevy/Cloughernal and in the Afternoon = via Derragh – Killasonna – Lisryan to Granard. Courses: Triple “P” Parenting Course: If you are a parent/grandparent/carer of young children this course is highly recommended and will commence shortly in Lus Na Greine, Granard subject to numbers. Woodwork classes are also starting on Thursday evenings. Enrolment is essential for the above courses. Swimming Classes: By popular demand the centre is also hoping to organise a bus to Cavan Swimming Pool one evening per week. These will suit beginners. Community Games Sports Day: Longford Community Games Sports Day is on the 9th of June in Ballymahon. All kids will get a text just to confirm they are going. Our U-11 basketball team are training away for their next match which is against Meath no date but all players will also get a text.
The Granada Festival Granard: Great to see the Line up for the Marquee taking shape: Friday 5 July Jimmy Buckley and His Band preceded by Chuck and June, Saturday 6 July Audiopilot, Sunday 7 July Festival Queen Selection followed by Gina Dale Haze and the Champions. It is hoped to have a display of Granada memorabilia during the weekend, so if anybody has any photos, programs, tickets, posters, plans, outfits etc., it would be minded and returned. Promises to be a great weekend of music and entertainment!
