Holy Week Ceremonies: The following are the times for holy week ceremonies in Carrickedmond and Abbeyshrule during Easter. Spy Wednesday: Mass in Carrickedmond at 10am. Holy Thursday: Mass of the Lords supper in Abbeyshrule at 6pm and in Carrickedmond at 8pm. (There will be Eucharistic Adoration in Carrickedmond following the Holy Thursday ceremony until 11pm). Good Friday: Stations of the Cross in Abbeyshrule at 11am. Celebration of the Passion of the Lord in Carrickedmond at 3pm and in Abbeyshrule at 8pm. Holy Saturday: Confessions in Carrickedmond church from 1pm to 2pm. Celebration of the Easter Vigil in Abbeyshrule at 9pm. Easter Sunday: Mass in Carrickedmond at 10am. Eucharistic Adoration in Carrickedmond from 7pm to 8pm. Easter Monday: Mass in Carrickedmond at 10am.

Thanks: The Carrickedmond/Abbeyshrule defibrillator group held a very successful fundraising night in the parish hall on Friday night last. A great night of music song and dance was had by the good crowd who attended. Winners of the waltzing competition were: 1st place Mike Mulvanney and dancing partner from Mullingar. 2nd place Mary and Robert Mc Namara Ballincarraigy. Raffle winners on the night included: Margaret Mc Guire, Margaret Hogan, Bridgie Mc Donnell all Carrickedmond and Mrs Mc Cormack from Legan. The CADG would like to thank the following who helped make this event a very successful one. Everyone who sold and bought tickets and all who attended on the night. The hall committee for the use of the hall. The ladies who supplied and served the lovely refreshments. Anthony Edward and John who helped at the door on the night. Frances and George who adjudicated the waltzing competition. Everyone who gave spot prizes and to the ladies who sold tickets on the night. A special thanks to Jimmy Lennon, Packie Campbell, George Farrar, Willie Kavanagh and Padraig Dalton who supplied the wonderful music on the night free of charge. Thanks also to all members of the CADG committee who helped plan and organise this fundraiser. Congratulations: To Eugene McCormack and the Longford U-21 football team who recorded a great win over Wexford and now take on Kildare in the Leinster U-21 championship final which will be played in O Moore Park Portloise on Wednesday night the 4th April. Best of luck in the final to all.

Congratulations: To the Abbeyshrule Tidy Towns committee winners of the 2012 Tidy Towns competition and gold medal winners in the Entente Florale European competition who have been selected by the Longford Association in Dublin as the 2013 Special Longford Community award winners. The group will be presented with this special award at the association’s dinner dance which will take place on Saturday night the 13th April next in Moran’s Hotel Dublin. 18th Birthday: Congratulations to Michael John Harney who celebrated his 18th birthday with family and friends at a party held in the Rustic Inn Abbeyshrule on Saturday night.

Crèche Open Day: Naoirathre crèche in Legan are would like to invite everyone to their open day on Saturday the 13th April from 12 to 2pm.

Community Games: The local community games group will hold their annual sponsored walk on Friday the 29th March commencing from St Sinneachs NS Colehill at 4:30pm. Sponsorship cards are in circulation and everyone is invited to participate in the walk in aid of the Carrickedmond Community games group.

Meeting: The Carrickedmond PTAA group will hold their next meeting in the presbytery Carrickedmond on Sunday the 7th April after 10am mass. All members are asked to attend.

CADG: A number of people from the parish are due their two year recertification in April ’13. All concerned will be contacted in the coming weeks by text with a date and time for their re-certification to take place. When contacted please confirm with Anthony Green at 086-3993933 your attendance. These re-certification classes will take place in St Sinneachs Hall Carrickedmond.

Congratulations: To Avril Kelly and the Ballymahon U-16 girls basketball team who recorded a great win over Colaiste Oiriall Monaghan in the All Ireland schools “C” league final which took place in the Tallagh basketball arena Dublin last week. There were great celebrations in the school on the return of the All Ireland champions. Well done all.

Church of Ireland Ardagh Group Easter Ceremonies: The following are the Easter ceremonies for the Ardagh group of parishes. Good Friday: Devotional service in Kenagh church at 11:30am. Easter Eve: Holy Communion will be distributed in Ballymahon at 7pm and in Kenagh at 9pm. Easter Day: Holy Communion will be distributed in Ardagh at 10am and in Tashinney at 11:30am. The annual Easter Vestry meetings will take place for the four parishes in the Ardagh group will be held in the week after Easter. Birthday Congratulations: Congratulations to Edward Keenan Ratharney who celebrated his “coming of age” with a birthday party in the Rustic-Inn Abbeyshrule recently. Edward was joined by all his family and friends for this special birthday celebration.

Sincere Sympathy: Marie Farrell Park-Place on the recent death of her aunt Kathleen Tiernan and to the Mulhern family Whiterock, Shroid on the death of John Mulhern. May they rest in peace.

COMMUNITY GAMEs: We have being very busy and successful with events we have taken part in over the last two weeks. On Thursday 14th March we had a Table Quiz team take part in County Community Games Competition and they give a very good account of their knowledge on the night. The Table Quiz team was Orla Farrell, Jodie McCormack, Ellen Shannon and Ciara Mulligan. On Saturday 16th March we had 6 Children from the area take part in County Swimming Finals and brought home 6 medals, 4 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze. Gabriel Murphy U8 Freestyle, Sam Mills U10 Freestyle, Aislinn Egan U10 Freestyle, Jenna Mills U12 Freestyle, Aisling Gorman U12 Breaststoke, and David Mills U12 Breaststroke. Well done to all on this exceptional result. On Wednesday 20th March Cian Hughes & Siobhan Egan took part in the U10 Handwriting competition. We are awaiting results. This weekend we had 2 teams take part for the first time in Futsal. Our U13 Boys teams that played on Saturday were Daniel Lennon, James Donovan, James Reilly, Sean McCormack, Cian Tighe and James McCormack. On Sunday our U13 Girls team played in the Final of the Futsal. They were Aimee Higgins, Ellen Shannon, Orla Farrell, Ciara Mulligan, Niamh Dempsey, Grace Keegan, Grace Esler and Leah Shannon. They won 6-2 against Abbeylara/Mullinghta. They now go forward to represent Longford in the first round of Leinster. Well done to both teams.
