NUPTIALS: Congratulations to Grainne Fox, daughter of Patsy and Dorothy Esker, Killoe who exchanged nuptial vows with Sean Sheridan son of Sean and Marie, Co Cavan joined by families and friends (including a gathering of her pupils from St Theresa’s NS Clontumpher Killoe to extend a rousing (Go néirí an p-ádh leath) as Grainne entered St Marys Church Ennybegs Killoe. A sumptuous reception was enjoyed by one and all afterwards in the Landmark Hotel Carrick on Shannon Co Leitrim. The parish express good wishes to Sean Grainne and their families for a future of great health and happiness.

BRAWL IN THE HALL: The Angela Rogers Memorial white collar boxing event in aid of Longford Hospice Homecare will be held in the Longford Arms Hotel Main St Longford on Easter Saturday 30 March 2013 at 8pm. Our parish will be well represented on the night by Paddy Hughes and Daniel Keogh who will be participating in the Brawl in the Hall with many more participants helping to raise much needed funds for the hospice and enable them to continue to carry on with their excellent homecare assistance. CONDOLENCE: The parish extend sincere condolence to Michael and Moira (nee McKeon, Aughaboy) O’Rourke Newry Co Down, O’Rourke families Co Down on the sad bereavement of Michael’s brother Joseph O’Rourke who was laid to rest last week. Requiem mass was celebrated in St Oliver Plunkett’s Church Belleek Co Armagh with burial afterwards in adjoining cemetery. May he rest peacefully.

GARDA: An Garda Siochana are holding office to assist the public convenience on Mondays from 1pm – 3pm and Thursdays 4pm – 6pm on a weekly basis in the Dole Credit Union office beside Carrigy’s Post Office Ballinalee. This service organised by Michael Carrigy in liason with Garda Siochana and we thank all of them for the support.
CARERS ASSOCIATION: The Longford/Westmeath branch of the Carers Association are holding a fun run event of 5K on Friday 29 March 2013 (Good Friday) commencing at 12 noon from the corner of Great Water Street (across from cinema).Registration on the day from 10.30am.Entry fee 10 euro with medals awarded for the completion of the fun run. RURAL TRANSPORT: A recent re-structuring proposal endorsed by the Minister for Commuter and Public Transport outlines changes to the Rural Transport programme which will place Co Longford Rural Transport into the new Eastern and Midland Regional Unit with counties Westmeath/Laoise/Offaly. CLOCKS: Clocks ! Summer time kicks in on Sunday morning at 2am . So don’t forget to move your clocks on Saturday night or low and behold. Good wishes to all families at home and abroad for a safe and pleasant Holy Easter.
CULLYFAD: We had a tree planting session on Sunday morning last in conjunction with the bee keepers club who have some hives just down the road. The trees they planted are bee friendly and will help to produce honey with blossoms for the bees to work on. Progressive 25 continues for two more nights and will finish on Easter Monday night as we change to Summer time on Easter weekend. Seamus Murtagh is leading the score at the moment and would be a fair bet to win out. So I would like to see all card players for the last night. Bingo as usual every Wed night. This week we have the Easter eggs so come along and try your luck, you might be lucky. On Saturday night April 7th we have the Kilglass Play Group staging two one act plays which run for approx one hour each, watch out for ad and more next week. I am going to arrange a meeting of all who set & sponsored flow beds last time to make arrangements for this year’s planting and thanks for your support in the year gone past. More next week.
COMMUNITY GAMES: The Annual Community Games Church Gate Collection took place last weekend, the 23rd. And 24th. March. Many thanks to everyone from Killoe and the surrounding areas who donated so generously and who give us such great support for this collection. The County Final of the Swimming took place on the 16th. March. The results are as follows: U8 Boys Freestyle – 4th. James Mahon; U8 Girls Freestyle – 3rd. Leah Quinn; U10 Boys Freestyle – 4th. Caolan Meadows; U14 Boys Freestyle – 3rd. David Heffernan; U10 Girls Backstroke – 2nd. Laoise Mei Landers Horne. Well done boys and girls on your great achievement – its great to see so many young people representing Killoe in the swimming. The U10 Draughts team played Ashbourne, Co. Meath on the 17th. March in Cullyfad – Killoe team all played great but were unlucky to lose. Thanks to Catherine Bracken, Raymond Murphy, Martina Reynolds, Catherine Hopkins and Helen Reichert who helped with all the Draughts Teams this year. Thanks also to the parents for catering for the teams. Hope to see you all next year. The County Final of the Handwriting Competition took place on Wednesday last in Kenagh. Thanks to Laoise Mei Landers Horne and Gavin Farrelly for representing Killoe but were unlucky not to be placed for medals. Congratulations and well done to our U13 Futsal Team who won the County Final on Saturday last, the 23rd. In recent weeks, our U13 Basketball Teams who their matches and our U11 Mixed A Team beat Clonbroney on Friday last, the 22nd. Best of luck to our U11 Mixed B Team who are playing their first game during the week. The County Final of the Table Quiz took place on 14th. March. Well done to our Killoe Team who came in third place. The County Final of the Talent Competition took place on the 18th. March. Congratulations and well done to Adam Fenlon who came 2nd. and to Katie O’Driscoll who came 3rd. in the Solo Singing. In the Group Drama Killoe came first. Many thanks to all who coached the teams.
