Enjoyable Night: The audience in Drumreilly Community Centre on last Sunday night thoroughly enjoyed the Acorn Players presentation night of Jimmy Keary’s hilarious three-act comedy “The Two Loves of Gabriel Foley”. A well balanced cast of Margaret Healy (Aggie Foley), Nicola Kearns (Lucy Lacy), Pauric McLoughlin (Gabriel Foley), Anella McGuinness (Chrissie McCabe), Philip Flood (Liam Gavigan), Monica O Reilly (Hazel Myers), Margaret Healy (Morag De Courcey) and Dave Price (Clive Snell) with wholesome minute comedy insured that, in the best traditions of amateur acting, they sent an appreciative audience home laughing. Thanks for your help Acorn Players with the fundraiser for St. Mary’s N.S. Drumlea.

Dancing Classes: The McCartin S.D. classes will recommence on Tuesday January 15th and Thursday January 17th in Drumreilly Community Centre.

Sympathy: Sympathy is extended to the relatives of the late Mrs. Rose Galligan, Drumlara, Killeshandra. Her funeral took place on Saturday last following Mass of the Resurrection in Killeshandra Church to the adjoining cemetery. Faoi chúmhdach na naomh go raibh a hanam.

Down Memory Lane: A newspaper report last week on the death on January 4th of Mr. Frank (Duskey) Ellis, late of “Monte Vista” The Dunes, Strandhill, Co, Sligo, calls to mind for this writer the visit of a travelling show to Drumreilly Hall in 1962. The entertainers known as The “Duskeys” stayed for a week, and drew full houses nightly with drama, music, recitation, singing, magic etc. Talented actor, the late Frank was father of singer Sandy (Barbara) Kelly, who with her sister, who were enrolled in Gortahose N.S. on December 16th 1972, where they attended for the duration of their stay in Drumlea. May his soul rest in peace.

Active Age Snippets: Fourteen members attended last Wednesday’s weekly meeting. The disbursement of the profits accruing from the sale of the Christmas wraths was decided. Also on the agenda was the St, Valentine’s Social, the payment of rent for the meetings of 2012 and preparations for the Forum and the A.G.M. The Annual General Meeting of Drumreilly Active Age Group will take place in the Community Centre on this Wednesday night January 16th.at 8.00 p.m. It is important that all members are in attendance. Earlier in the evening the Group will host the Sth. Leitrim Forum. The members extend a welcome to new members.

Lotto Draw: The following numbers were drawn on January 2nd: 1,3,12 and 25. Recalling January 1993: Drumreilly Gaels were whooping it up at their Club Disco in the Commercial Hotel, Ballinamore. Drumreilly Community Care Committee played hosts to forty five of our senior citizens at a party in the Community Centre. Raging gales caused damage to the roof of St. Mary’s Church. Drumreilly Club was the recipient of the Leitrim Pitch of the Year award at the Oíche Scléipe in Kelly’s Hotel, Mohill. Elected for the 18th time Seán Maxwell held the record as the longest serving member in charge of Leitrim Co. Board’s finances. Drumreilly were beaten 3-8 to 2-9 by Drumkeerin in the U-16 Winter League final. The lineout was Denis Smith, Seán Mitchell, Niall Bohan, Niall Gallogly, Gene Connolly, Martin Flynn, Francis Flynn, Connell McGovern, Thomas Connolly, Declan McCauley, Shane Maguire, Paul Bohan, Enda Beirne, Noel McGirl and Kenneth Darcy.
