WELL DONE, ALAN: Congratulations to Allen Gaels Clubman Alan Wynne who gave a Man of the Match performance in the historic victory over the mighty Mayo in Ballinamore last Sunday. Alan received high praise from all the National media for his contribution to a victory which was Leitrim’s first over the Connacht Champions and All-Ireland finalists since the historic year of 1994.Those of us present for the humiliation suffered by team and supporters alike last June in Castlebar against the same opposition enjoyed last Sunday as we turned the tables on what is a very talented squad of players. A wonderful performance from all of the squad who must be pinching themselves to have taken two important scalps in seven days. Congratulations also to Co Managers Barney Breen and George Dugdale for their commitment and belief in this young squad of emerging talent. Next Sunday, Leitrim wrap up their FBD Connacht League programme against GMIT in Cloone. A victory there will ensure that Leitrim will qualify for the FBD Final against either Sligo or Galway. Although Mayo were short several of their regulars, so were Leitrim who welcome back Enda Williams, Barry Prior, and Gary Reynolds. Shane Moran, BB Brennan and Kildare based Cian Reynolds, the former Kildare Under 21 who has opted to play for the County of his Dad under the parentage rule. Cian is currently a member of the Carlow IT team in the O’Byrne Cup and it is expected that the talented youngster who plays in a forward role will train with the County squad for the commencement of the National League in early February when Leitrim travel to Limerick.
