Table Quiz in Leavy’s: A table Quiz takes place in Leavy’s Lounge on this Friday night in aid of St. Barry’s GAA Club. Registration takes place at 8.30pm.It is essential that teams arrive early as its our intention to commence this Quiz just after 9 pm.

Local connection with Young Scientist Winner: We are truly delighted with the success of Shauna O Neill,from Cloontuskert who picked up the Intel prize at the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition at the RDS in Dublin on Friday night last. Shauna is a student of Scoil Mhuire gan Smal in Roscommon town and her mother is Margaret Burns from Mount Dillon, Curraghroe.It is a very proud time for her parents Margaret and Michael and relations. Shauna will now go to Phoenix, Arizona to the Annual Intel International Science and Engineering Fair next May. Congrats to all other students who participated in this event.

Benefit Fund for Dermot Keane: The Dermot Keane fundraising committee wish to thank all who supported the campaign and the night in St. Faithleach’s GAA Club on the 20th December. We are glad to report that Dermot is home and is on the long road to recovery.

Good luck Lisa: Good wishes to Lisa McGowan who is heading off to do Charity Work in South Africa as a medical worker shortly. We wish Lisa the best of luck and commend her for bravery and goodwill to her fellow human beings in other parts of the World.

Concert: Ballyfeeney National School Christmas Concert took place inSt. Anne’s Church, Scramogue on Sunday evening l 16th December. This was a great performance by all the young children who sang and played to their hearts content. Well done to all concerned. After the show we all headed to Leavy’s Bar across the road where mince pies, teas and coffees were served, certainly a great night was had by all and is what a great start to the Christmas for the local Community.

Death: It is with deep regret that we report the death of one of Ireland’s oldest citizens Mrs Margaret Feeney Ashbrook, Scramogue, Strokestown who passed away recently in her 106th year. Sympathy to her son Pearse, daughter Bridie, daughter in law Bridgie, and son in law Paddy, grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. May she rest in peace.

Congrats Ronan: Well done to Ronan McGowan, Cloonshannagh, Ruskey who won an All Ireland Colleges medal with Ballyhaise College in late 2012. Ronan was playing half forward for the College.

St. Barry’s GAA AGM: St.Barry’s GAA AGM took place in St.Barry’s Hall Friday 7th December. There was a good attendance and the following officers were elected. Joint Presidents: Noel Mitchell, Paddy Mitchell; Chairman: Gerry Farrell, Secretary (to be appointed); Asst Secretary: Dermot Kilcrann; Vice Chairman: Tommy Hoare, Treasurer: Paddy Wallace, Assistant Treasurer: Eoin O Boyle, PRO: Claire Hoare, Assistant PRO: Beatrice Gaynor, Insurance Officer: Michael Burke, Registrars: Eamon and Seamus Bennett. Intermediate Management Team for 2013 is Kiean Cox, Peter Fallon and Padraig Fallon. Team Management for 2012 John McGowan and Gabriel Wallace were praised for their commitments. Also tributes were paid to outgoing secretary Declan Deehan.

GAA Ladies AGM: St.Barry’s Ladies AGM took place recently in the clubhouse. The following officers were elected – Chairmman: Johnny Cox, Secretary: Beatrice Gaynor, Childrens Officer: Pauline Conry, Delegates to County Board: Beatrice Gaynor, Gillian Wallace and Carol Ann Bennett. The ladies club wish to thank all of the sponsors of the club for 2012 and also wish to thank all others who helped the club through the last year.
