Ceremonies and Masses for Holy Week in Carrickedmond/Abbeyshrule:
The following are the times for Easter ceremonies in the parish during holy week. Spy Wednesday 1st April: Stations of the Cross in Abbeyshrule at 7.00pm. Holy Thursday 2nd April: Mass of the Lord’s Supper in Abbeyshrule at 6.00pm followed by Adoration at the altar of repose for one hour and mass of the Lord’s Supper in Carrickedmond at 8.00pm followed by Adoration at the altar of repose for one hour. Good Friday, 3 April: Celebration of the Passion of the Lord in Carrickedmond at 3.00pm and celebration of the Passion of the Lord in Abbeyshrule at 8.00pm. Holy Saturday, 4th April: Confessions in Abbeyshrule Church from 12 noon to 1.00pm and confessions in Carrickedmond Church from 1.15pm to 2.15pm. Holy Saturday Night: Celebration of the Easter Vigil in Abbeyshrule at 9.00pm. Easter Sunday, 5th April: Mass in Carrickedmond at 10.00am. Eucharistic Adoration will take place in Carrickedmond on Easter Sunday evening from 7.00pm to 8.00pm.
Easter Services Church of Ireland
The following Easter services will take place during holy week for members of the Ardagh group of Parishes to which all are welcome. Good Friday the 3rd April special service in Kenagh church at 3pm. Easter Saturday the 4th April Holy Communion in Ballymahon church at 7pm and in Kenagh church at 9pm.
Easter Sunday the 5th April Holy Communion in Ardagh church at 10am and in Tashinney church at 11:30am. Canon Kingston will administer Holy Communion to the sick in hospital and in nursing homes and to the house bound during holy week. Details of the four annual Easter vestry meetings for Ardagh, Ballymahon, Kenagh and Tashinney will be announced at the Easter services.
Two year re-certification classes are currently ongoing and are taking place in the parish hall, Carrickedmond. All concerned are asked to please indicate by return text if you can attend this class when contacted. If there are people interested in doing a new CPR/AED course please contact Seamus McGuire at 086-8286748, Anthony Green at 086-3993933 or Kathryn Keenan 0868226894 as it is intended to run a course for new people in April.
The Carrickedmond/Abbeyshrule defibrillator committee would like to thank everyone who helped make the fundraising social which took place in the parish hall on Sunday night last a success. Special thanks to Jimmy Lennon and friends who supplied the lovely music, the hall committee for the use of the hall, ticket sellers and all who attended. Money raised from this social will go towards the upkeep of defibrillators and equipment in the parish.
Next weekend is Easter weekend and I would like to wish a happy Easter to all parishioners, readers of these local notes and to all from the parish across the water. Hopefully, everyone has a safe and happy Easter.

A reminder that the senior pupils in sixth class at Colehill NS have for sale personalised key rings which are produced in the school by the pupils. If interested in purchasing a personalised key ring please forward a picture or details to be included on the key ring to the school by emailing the producers at firstname.lastname@example.org or by contacting the school at 0449357466. Also pupils in fifth class are selling their produce biscuit cakes at €2 each. This product is also produced by the pupils in the school. The following are dates and times for upcoming spring house stations. Friday, 17th April at the home of Nancy Mullen for the Abbeyshrule area at 8pm. Wednesday the 29th April at the home of Carmel Nally for the Ratharney area at 8pm.
Art Final: Congratulation to the following children from the parish that took part in the recent Art Final and received the following placings in their respective categories. Ava Breslin 2nd place, Sean Bryne 2nd place, Aidan Murtagh 3rd place, Mark McGrath 3rd place and Gary Murtagh 3rd place. Well done to all. Basketball: Congratulations to the following Basketball teams who took part in the recent county finals. U-16 boys silver medals and U-16 girls silver medals. U-13 Girls won the county final and will now participate in the Leinster Finals. Well done to these young girls and to their coach Michelle Mulvey. Gaelic Football: Congratulations to the following Gaelic teams who took part in the recent Finals - U-10 Mixed team winners of the County Final and U-10 Girls winners of the County Final competition. Both these groups will now participate in the Leinster series. Well done to both groups and a special thanks to their coaches Kevin Mulvey and Michelle Mulvey. Tag Rugby: U-14 Boys runner-up and silver medal winners. Well done to all who took part as this was the first year Carrickedmond took part in this competition. A special thanks to their coaches Paula McCormack and Kevin Mollohan.
Abbeyshrule Canoe Club The popular ‘Come and Try’ sessions returns for 2015 on Tuesday the 7th April from 3pm in Abbeyshrule harbor. €5 charge per person redeemable from 2015 club membership. Ethos of the club is family based, parents and kids paddling together. So parents give it a go. Kayaking level 1 and level 2 courses (supported by Longford Sports Partnership and Waterways Ireland) to follow in April/May.
