Palm Sunday

Sunday last was Palm Sunday commemorating Christ’s messianic entrance into Jerusalem and palm branches were blessed before the weekend Masses. It is traditional to place these palms in the home and all outbuildings to keep all bad luck away for the coming year.

Easter ceremonies

Holy Thursday: Mass of the Last Supper and Washing of feet will be celebrated in St. Joseph’s Church, Loughduff at 7 pm and in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Mullahoran at 8.30pm. After each Mass there will be a procession of Blessed Sacrament to altar of repose and adoration will take place until midnight and again until 3 pm on Good Friday. List for rotas are available in both Churches.

Good Friday: Solemn Liturgy at 3 pm in Mullahoran, Stations of the Cross and Holy Communion in Loughduff at 5pm. Trocaire donations are to be returned today – where possible please convert to notes to facilitate those counting. This is a day of fast and abstinence. First Friday; Sick & elderly will be visited in Mullahoran area on Tuesday and in Loughduff on Friday.

Holy Saturday: Easter vigil celebrations in Loughduff at 9pm commencing with blessing of Pascal Fire.

Easter Sunday: 9.30am Mass in Loughduff and 11 am in Mullahoran. Easter Holy Water - the custom of bringing home the blessed Easter Water is to be encouraged. Traditionally each room in the house is sprinkled and also the out offices and farm buildings with family members taking part.

Altar Societies & Cleaners: Volunteers will meet at 8pm in both Churches on Wednesday night at 8pm to prepare for Easter, donations of flowers welcome.

Holy Oils – Diocesan Gathering; for the first time in 6 years St. Mel’s Cathderal will once again be the venue for the Chrism Mass following its restoration and reopening before Christmas. Each parish is asked to send representatives especially children who have recently received Confirmation. The Mass will take place on Holy Thursday morning at 11 am.


Congratulations to the children of 5th & 6th classes who received the sacrament of Confirmation recently. The ceremony took place in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Mullahoran and was administered by Bishop Francis Duffy, assisted by Canon Owen Devaney P.P. The recipients were; 6th Class - Eve Brady, Mary Rose Brennan, Roisin Brennan, Zoe Cassidy, Ellen Deneher, Aine Fitzpatrick, Elesha Flood, Abágh Harten, Laura Hartin, Ciara McGaughran, Moilly O’Reilly, Rachael Reilly, Amy Sheridan, Clodagh Wilson, Dillon Fitzsimons, Cormac McKeogh, Caolán O’Reilly, Declan O’Reilly, Dean Reilly. 5th Class – Hannah Brennan, Annie Deneher, Michaela Fegan, Saoirse Fegan, Megan Harten, Éabha Kelly, Kate Lynch, Colleen McGahern, Danielle O’Reilly, Megan O’Reilly, Shannon O’Reilly, Oisín Cruise, Miklosius Mantvydas, Paddy Mulligan, Sean Murray, Daithí Sheils, Kamie Smith.

Table Quiz

In the Parochial hall on Good Friday night April 3rd at 8.30pm. All organisations using the hall are requested to enter a team – proceeds towards upkeep of hall.

Patrick McCabe

The death occurred peacefully of Patrick (Paddy) McCabe, Killynebber, Cavan and formerly Cloncovid, Kilcogy on Tuesday, March 3rd at College View Nursing Home, Cavan. Paddy was a former employee of the old Smiths Garage, Cavan for many years. He was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen and brother John, Cloncovid a few years ago and is survived by his daughters Mary, Geraldine and Lourde and son Sylvester and grandchildren, sisters Margaret, Seattle and Rose and Kathleen, Cloncovid. The funeral took place from the Cathedral of Saints Patrick & Felim to St. Patrick’s cemetery, Castletara on Saturday last. May he rest in peace.

Tractor Run

Martin Cadden’s Monster Tractor Run in aid of Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust will place on Saturday, April 18th from Mullahoran GFC grounds starting at 1:00pm. Refreshments served before & after the tractor run. A passenger will be allowed on a tractor if the tractor has a factory fitted seat.  All tractors Welcome.
