Monsignor Vincent McCabe RIP
The death has occurred of Monsignor Vincent McCabe in Los Angeles, USA. Born in Gortermone, he was the second youngest of eight children of John and Margaret McCabe. He attended Gortermone NS, Latin School, Moyne, Co Longford and St Pat’s College, Cavan. He was ordained in Maynooth on 20 June 1946 for the Diocese of Kilmore. With the surplus of Priests at the time he went on temporary mission to Los Angeles until his recall to serve as Curate to Rossinver, Co Leitrim in the winter of 1954. In 1956 the lure of the warm climate of Los Angeles tempted him to seek permission to return to serve out the rest of his mission in Los Angeles Archdiocese in the parishes of Santa Maria, Santa Barbara and Santa Catalina. His work included the building of two new Churches and two new schools. After his retirement he was Chaplain in a large nursing home in Los Angeles. His home there was often a meeting place for visiting Irish friends. He travelled to Ireland almost every summer, visiting his family and staying at the home of his late brother Foncy and sister in law Margaret in Tully, Carrigallen. He was one of the last surviving members of the Tully team which won the senior football championship in Leitrim in 1945 where he played an important role in the forwards. He also played for St Pat’s College team in 1939 which won the Ulster Colleges McRory cup. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Later in life he was a keen golfer. He was predeceased by his brothers Fr James, Fr Gerald, Foncy, sisters Sr St Edmund, Margaret, Elizabeth and Kathleen. He is survived by his nephews, nieces and cousins in Tully, Beaghmore and various parts of Ireland and America. Requiem Mass was concelebrated by Fr Denis Murray P.P., Fr Johnny Cusack, Fr John Phair, Fr. P.J. Corrigan and his cousin Fr Jim Sorohan in St Mary’s Church, Carrigallen on 21 March 2015 followed by interment of his ashes in the adjoining cemetery. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam usual.
Table quiz in aid of Carrigallen GAA will be held in Carrigallen Community Hall on Good Friday, 3 April at 9pm. Teams of four, €40 per team – Juvenile teams €20. Raffle at half time.

Easter Egg Draw
Congratulations to all the winners who took part in the Easter Eggs competition in Carrigallen Library. It was a great success with sixty seven entries. Helen would like to thank all the children who entered the competition and to their parents for their support in making the library an important part of their child’s life.

G.F.C. Lotto The draw was held on Saturday, 28 March 2015, and the numbers drawn on the night were 8, 10, 15, and 20. There was no Jackpot winner and the four winners of €50 each were Frances Magaraghan, Pauline Harte, Rose Ellen Callaghan and Gerry Keegan. Next week’s draw will be held in Mitchell’s bar on 4 April 2015 when the Jackpot will be €4,700. Those in charge of the draw will be Declan Donohoe and Paddy O’Rourke and Brian Murray.

Carrigallen Gun Club is holding a Poker Classic on Easter Sunday, 5 April in Mitchell’s Bar from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. 1st prize €400, and many more cash prizes. Entry fee €20. Refreshments will be served.
