Blessing and Rededication of our Churches

The weekend of 31st Jan /Feb 1st this year will be a significant date for our parish, when we will have the blessing and rededication of both our churches. Saturday 31st January, St. Mary’s Church Moydow. Bishop Francis will celebrate Mass and bless the church at 7pm, after Mass he will bless the renovated Parish Hall. Sunday, 1st February St. Brigid’s Church Ardagh, the Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Charles J. Brown will celebrate the Mass of Rededication at 12 noon.


Our B team travelled to Castlepollard who are second in division two league on Wednesday last and picked up one point in the last game with Mike McGuickin, Brian Farrell and Pat Hayes finishing very well. Our A team played Mullingar in Ardagh on Thursday night and came away with two points. On Thursday night next our A team travel to Tyrellspass to play their A team in a very important match. Our B team are at home on Thursday next t Ballymore B at 8pm. Our last two bonus winners were Adrian Greene and Sean Powell. We are still seeking new members to the club.

Adult Art

A six week course of morning classes in painting, using either oils or acrylics will begin on Tuesday 27th January. The venue is the Heritage Center, Ardagh and classes run from 10.30 am to 12.30. Susan Eades, M.A., H.Dip Ed, SEC oral examiner. German Leaving Cert Grind Club starts this Wednesday 21st January, 6.30pm to 8.00pm, €80 for 6 sessions €20 for drop in. German native speaking teacher Jana Reinhardt will prepare you for written exams and orals. Maths Leaving Cert Grinds Club starts this Wed 21st Jan at 8.00pm, €80 for 6 sessions or €20 drop in. Prepare for ordinary and higher level Maths exams with qualified Maths teacher. Adult Group French Conversation Sessions continue at 8pm. New members always welcome. French conversation on current affairs, Grammar catch-up,French for holidays. €80 for 6 wks or €20 pw drop in. Thursdays: Toddler Creativity continues from 11am to 12 pm.  €5 per child. Free tea/coffee for accompanying adult. Elements of Art classes continue from 12.30pm to 1.30pm. €5 per person. Mid term camp

February Mid-term Camp at Club Ardagh. Thursday, 19/2: Fun Day, Friday, 20/2: Baking Day (Activities include: Arts & Crafts, Bun Making, Biscuit Decorating , Organized games and activities). Time: 9:30 - 3:00pm. Cost: 12 euro per day. Ages: 3 - 12 years welcome. *Children need to bring a snack and a packed lunch with them on the day. Places are limited so please book in advance. U10 Girls: 1st Rachel Campbell, 2nd Dimity Bladen, 3rd Rachel Fallon. U10 Boys: Donnacha Golden. U12 Girls: 1st Anna Hayden, 2nd Saoirse McLoughlin, 3rd Bronagh O’Meara. U12 Boys: 1st Ronan Keenan, 2nd Joseph Carrigy, 3rd Cathal Farrell. U14 Boys: 1st Daniel Hayden, 2nd Brendan Finnan, 3rd Colm Hoysted. U16 Girls: 1st Meghan Finnan, 2nd Olivia Hoysted, 3rd Rebecca O’Kane. This year every area is allowed to send forward 2 entries from each category to go to the County Art Final scheduled for Saturday, February 28 at 10am at St. Emer’s NS so all the 1st and 2nd place winners will be representing AMG at the next stage of the competition. Our U10 and U12 draughts teams played in the county competition held in Killoe N.S. at the weekend. Our U10 team of Kaycee Malone, Sian Gallagher, Rachel Campbell, Katie Duignan, Daire Farrell and Maria Hayden were narrowly defeated by a strong Killoe team. This was the first county for most of the team so well done all. A team to watch in the future. Our U12 team of Jack Gallagher, Melissa O’Kane, Anna Hayden, Claragh Shannon, Saoirse McLoughlin, Keeva Gillen and Alison Keegan came up against Ballymahon/Forgney in the first round. After a very close match AMG emerged the victors and progressed to the second round where they met a Killoe team. Ardagh were unable to win enough games to secure the match and did not progress to the semi finals. Well done to all the children for taking part in the county competition which is a great achievement in itself. On Saturday 24th an Sunday 25th coming, our Girls U13, Girls U10 and two boys U13 teams are taking part in the County Indoor Soccer competition in Kenagh. Our first U13 boys game is at 9am and the second boys game is at 2.15pm on Saturday. Our U13 girls match is at 10am and the U10 girls match kicks off at 11.30 on Sunday 11.30am.
