New Year Greetings
As this is my first notes and indeed the first Colmcille notes for some time, I would like to wish all the people of the parish and all readers off these notes a very happy peaceful and prosperous new year. Regarding the notes, it is very important that anyone who has items to get published that they get it to me in good time so as not to miss the deadline 6pm Sunday. I look forward to your co-operation in this regard.
Deepest sympathy is extended to Paddy McKeon, Molly and Violet McGauran, Cornadrung on the death of their sister, Ellen Rose McNally, Aughafin, Edgeworthstown. May she rest in peace.
Colmcille GAA club are holding their AGM in the community centre, Aughnacliffe on Sunday next 25th at 5pm, it is hope that as many as possible will attend. The running of a football club is a lot of work so as the saying goes - many hands make light work, so please get involved and spread the work load.
Congratulations to local business man Dermot Smith who took the brave step to return to education after many years, and has successfully achieved his goal and graduated with Bsc (hon) Quantity Surveying degree from Bolton Street College.
Special Anniversary Mass
Fr. Phil McGee passed away some forty years ago at this time. A special anniversary Mass will take place here in Aughnacliffe on Saturday next, January 24th at 12 noon. Bishop Colm will be the chief celebrant and many of Fr. McGee’s former religious, education and sporting associates are expected to attend including members of the celebrated 1966 Longford NFL and 1968 Leinster senior championship sides. All welcome.
Get well wishes to JF McKeon, Smear who is recuperating after being taken ill recently, hope to see you out and about soon JF.
Dolmen Day Care re-opens this Wednesday 21st January in Dolmen Centre. Dolmen Failte Club resumes on 27th January at 2pm after the Christmas break and a very enjoyable Christmas party. Looking forward to seeing you all again, new members welcome. Best wishes health and happiness to all.

The Death of Ita McKeon
The death occurred on January 9th 2015 of Ita McKeon, Smear Lane, Aughnacliffe, Co Longford, peacefully, in the loving care of Ann Watters & staff at Laurel Lodge Nursing Home, Templemichael Glebe, Longford.
Predeceased by her husband Seamus. Sadly missed by her loving sons, Padraig (Dublin), Michael (Ennis), Seamus & Thomas, (Aughnacliffe); daughters Mary Stack, (Trim); Imelda Allard, (Belfast); Mairead Rogers (Athboy); Grandchildren, Great grandchildren, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, relatives and friends. Her remains were removed to St Colmcille’s Church, Aughnacliffe on Sunday, 10th January for Funeral Mass with burial afterwards in the local cemetery. To her family and friends, we tender out sincere sympathy.
Congratulations and best of luck to Nathan Brady, who is through to the Scór All-Ireland final in solo - singing in City West, February 14th. You have done the whole parish proud and we wish you continued success.
