An Aimsir Láithreach
Early in the week high winds, sleet showers, a light snowfall, night frost caused some disruption, which forced the cancellation of the South Leitrim Active Age Forum on Wednesday in Drumreilly Community Centre, and also the Bingo session on Friday night.
Recalling January 1995
The officers elected at the Drumreilly G.A.A. Club annual general meeting were Chairman: Tommy Connolly; Secretary: Martin McCartin; Treasurers: Des Donegan and Michael Holahan. Forty guests were seated at the Drumreilly Care of the Aged Committee New Year Party in the Community Centre. Seán Donohoe was the lucky winner of a St. Patrick’s Day Trip for Two to New York in a Draw promotes d by Killeshandra Band. Cathal Daly and Elizabeth Keegan had announced their engagement in New York. Set Dancing Classes under Dancing Teacher Miss Kathleen Moffett resumed in the Community Centre. A cocktail of high winds, snow, sleet, frost and torrential rain forced the cancellation of the Youth Band practice, the set-dancing classes, the Foróige Club meetings, and the Care of the Aged meeting, a senior football game in Carrickmakeegan, and the closure for two days of St. Mary’s N.S. Interior painting of St. Mary’s Church was nearing completion. There was joy for Pádraig and Maura Gaffney with the new arrival of their baby daughter. Pat Donohoe was one of eight Leitrim players selected for the Connacht Railway Cup team. After nineteen consecutive years of handling the Leitrim Co. Board finances, Treasurer Seán Maxwell called it a day. The deaths took place in England of former Keelrin resident Mr. Lawrence (Lal) Reilly, and of nonagenarian Mr. Paddy McGirl, Drumraine. R. I. Active Age Snippets
It was decided at the last meeting of Drumreilly Active Age Group to cancel the St. Valentine’s Social. The proceeds of the Christmas wreath sales have been donated to a local charity. The snowfall caused the cancellation of the weekly meeting on last Wednesday night. All members are asked to attend this week’s meeting on Wednesday January 21st, as it is the annual general meeting of the group.
