Death

Your prayers are requested for the happy repose of the soul of Fr. Thomas Flynn. C. C. Granard, a native of Gortletteragh, Co. Leitrim, who died on Tuesday, 4 November. May he rest in peace.

Gun Club

The Club wishes to thank all who attended and took part in their recent Longest Pheasant competition on Monday night, 3 November. Congratulations to the following winners 1st prize, The Michael McCormack Perpetual Cup, Raymond Reilly Mullahoran with a bird of 40 ¾ inch, 2nd John Flynn, Abbeylara with a bird of 39 ¾ inch and 3rd place to Dean Molly Granard with a bird of 39 inches. The Club prize 1st Richard Flynn, Abbeylara with a bird of 38 ¾ inch, 2nd Tommy Ledwith with a bird of 38 inch, 3rd Troy Flynn with a bird of 37 ½ inches. Congratulations to Richard Flynn for winning the Vermin Control Frank Smith Perpetual Trophy for 2014. The Club also wishes to thank Josie and staff in Crawford’s Lounge for the use of the premises on the night. Thanks also to our adjudicators on the night, Seamus Denning, Street and Patsy Cooke Granard. A good night was had by all.

Walk to Remember

The Caring & Sharing Association (CASA), which supports people with disabilities, is staging a ‘Walk to Remember’ along the banks of the Royal Canal in Mullingar on Saturday, November 22. There is a choice of two waling routes, either side of Mullingar, 10km or 15km, which will follow the leafy banks of the canal to a finish point in the town, where mass will be celebrated. Participants are asked to have raised €50 to €100 before taking part, and the meeting point is at the Park Hotel at 10.30am. A cycle option is also available, as are walking group rated. Fireside Tales

Longford Historian and Author Jude Flynn is launching the 12th book in his ‘Fireside Tales ‘series in Longford at the end of this month. This is an excellent achievement for the local writer. Longford – born journalist Liam Collins, Opinion Editor, Irish Independent, will launch the book on Thursday, November 27 at 8.00pm in Longford Library.

Solemn Novena

The Solemn Novena to Our Blessed Lady takes place in St. Mary’s, Granard on Wednesday, 12 November at 7.30pm and will continue until Wednesday 17 December. This Novena is a time of reflection, petition, praise and thanksgiving. We invite you to be part of this great gift.

Altar List of the Faithful Departed

Please take a list from your Church and write out the names of those who have died belonging to you and anyone else that you remember. Please return your list in the envelope provided and place it in the box in the Church. These people and all our dead will be prayed for at all Masses, especially during November, along with two Masses (1 in each Church) that will be offered each week during November for the faithful departed. The names of the dead will be placed on the altar and prayed for at all Masses during November.

Faithful Departed

Mass for all who have died in our Parish since November 2013 and for those who have died outside our Parish but with family living in our Parish and for former parishioners who died in the last year or so, will be offered on Friday, 28 November in Abbeylara Church at 7.30 pm or 8pm. All are welcome.

25 Card Drive

A 25 Card Drive is being held in Crawford’s Pubs, Abbeylara on 15 November in aid of the Senior Citizens Annual Christmas dinner. Cards are €5 each. An information officer from Co. Longford Citizens Information Service is available at Granard Area Action Group Office, Main Street, Granard each Thursday morning from 10.30am to 12.30pm. No appointment necessary.

Granard Area Action Group Ltd. is holding their annual Table Quiz in Fays Bar on Friday, 21 November at 9.00pm. Your support would be very much appreciated!

Tidy Towns

The Committee are holding a Cake Sale after all Masses on the weekend of 15 and 16 November.

Bingo

Takes place every Wednesday night at 8.45pm in the Community Centre Granard. Proceeds go towards St. Mary’s Granard and Abbeylara GAA Clubs. Jackpot is now €18,100. Seats are limited with this big Jackpot so come along early. IT COULD BE YOU!

Solemn Novena

In honour of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, continues every Tuesday, until Tuesday, 2 December in The Holy Trinity Abbey, Kilnacrott. Rosary takes place at 7.30 pm with Novena Prayers at 7.45pm and Holy Mass at 8.00 pm.

25 Card Game

A 25 Card Game takes place every Friday night in the Bay Horse, Granard at 9.30pm. New players are most welcome. There will also be live music here on Saturday night by Chuck and June. Refreshments will be served on the night.

Breffni Challenge

Johnny and Fiona Macken would like to thank everyone for their sponsorship and donations for the recent Breffni Challenge 2014. The amount raised was €6450 which has been presented to the Breffni Challenge. All the money raised goes to the Friends of St. Luke’s National Breast Cancer Research Institute and Cavan HomeCare.

Christmas Market

Would you like to display or sell your Christmas Wares this festive Season?? If so then come along to the Granard Christmas Market which takes place on Main Street on Sunday 7 December from 2.00pm to 5.00pm. Exhibitors are required to setup their own stall with Outdoor Canopy and Own Insurance Cover. There will be a Unique Live Crib, the Christmas lights will be switched on and Santa will also arrive on the day. This promises to be a great festive family day out in the town so why not come along and enjoy the fun!

Open Day

A Pre Christmas Shop Open Day will take place at Holy Trinity Abbey, Kilnacrott on Sunday, 16 Novemebr followed by Divine Mercy Devotions from 4.00pm to 6.00pm. A wide range of Christmas and Religious Goods will be on sale. There will be discounts on many items. Raffle for Crib and Hamper. Special guest artist will be James Kilbane. Refreshments served. All welcome.

Active Retirement

Rescheduled meeting takes place on Thursday, 13 November in Sports Centre.  The Midland Region Christmas Party is been held on 7 December in The Court Hotel, Tullamore from 1.00pm to 5.00pm.  We need to know how many members are going in order to book bus etc.  €20 secures your seat. Abbeylara / Carra Tidy Towns are holding a Table Quiz in Crawford’s on Saturday next, 22 November. Raffle, spot prizes and refreshments on the night; please support as this quiz is replacing our Christmas Draw that usually takes place in December.

Dancing Classes

The above takes place on Tuesdays in Lus Na Gréine, Granard from 8.00pm to 10.00pm. Learn to jive, waltz, foxtrot, quickstep, rock & roll, etc. €10 nightly.

Sign Language Course
