Schools Scor a success

The finals of Cumann na mBunscol Schools Scor took place in Drumlish Community Centre on Sunday last (June 17)and huge crowds attended the event.

The finals of Cumann na mBunscol Schools Scor took place in Drumlish Community Centre on Sunday last (June 17)and huge crowds attended the event.

“A big word of praise to all the schools who participated at each level. The experience the children will have gained on stage will be very useful to them in the future,” said Marett Smith, organiser of Cumann na mBunscol Schools Scor.

She added: “One could not help but notice the diversity of nationalities participating. It is wonderful to see these pupils being taught Irish figure and set dancing. In fact the winner of the solo Irish Soft Dance was from Bulgaria!

“Thanks to all parents, and teachers who worked so hard to prepare the children for the finals.”

The results are as follows:

1. Choir: St. Teresa’s NS, Killoe 2. Figure Dancing: St . Colmcille’s NS, Aughnacliffe 3. Solo Singing: St. Emer’s NS represented by Molly Hannifin 4. Ballad Group; St. Emer’s NS, Longford 5.Disco Dancing: St. Colmcille’s NS, Aughnacliffe 6.Recitation: St. Colmcillle’s NS, Aughnacliffe represented by Mark Kiernan 7. Instrumental Music Solo: St. Colmcille’s NS, Aughnacliffe represented by Aine Smith. 8. Quiz : Sacred Heart NS, Granard 9.Set Dancing mixed group: Sacred Heart NS, Granard 10. Instrumental Group: St Teresa’s NS, Killoe 11 Novelty Act: St. Colmcille’s NS, Aughnacliffe 12.Solo Dance - soft shoe:Sacred Heart NS, Granard represented by Velin Kolev 13. Solo Dance hard shoe: St. Colmcille’s NS, Aughnacliffe 14. Set Dancing GIRLS: Sacred Heart NS, Granard.

Three schools received trophies for 100 percent participation in all 14 events. They were: Sacred Heart NS, Granard, St. Colmcille’s NS, Aughnacliffe, and St. Teresa’s NS, Killoe. School of the year trophy went to St. Colmcille’s NS, Aughnacliffe. Well done to all.
