Kenagh GAA will host a 10km run and 5km walk this Sunday, June 24. In an effort to raise much needed funds for the popular GAA club, committee members have decided to host a run/walk event.
“It’s a community event as well. It’ll be great fun for everybody. We are looking forward to everyone getting involved and having a fantastic time. The fund-raising is almost secondary really,” said Mr John Rowan, PRO at Kenagh GAA.
Explaining the club’s choice of event, Mr Rowan said “Everybody seems to be crazy running these days so we (the committee) just decided that it would be a really good way to get the community together and have some fun.”
The route will take in many of the scenic sights associated with the County Longford village and its environs.
“To learn about the route in its entirety, click on our website www.kenaghgaa.com,” said Mr Rowan, a native of Kenagh and a player with the club.
Speaking about the response to date, Mr Rowan continued: “There is a great level of interest and we have received a lot of support from the local community. We don’t know how many people will participate but we’re hoping for 150 or so.
“Furthermore we would appreciate any help people would like to offer, e.g. stewards, taking down times etc.”
Registration costs €10 and application forms and sponsorship cards are available to download from www.kenaghgaa.com, or from committee members.
“Those travelling to Kenagh on the day are welcome to register that morning upon arrival. Registration opens from 11am in the community centre,” said Mr Rowan.
He added: “There will be light refreshments back at St. Dominic’s Community Centre following the event.”
