Ballymahon’s oldest lady dies
It was very much with deep regret that we learnt of the death last week of Mrs Bridget Melady, (nee Farrell), Lr. Main Street, Ballymahon, at Our Lady’s Manor Nursing Home in Edgeworthstown where she has been staying for the last few years. Bridget had reached the great age of 101 years old when she passed away peacefully, being the oldest member of our community. She is pre-deceased by her husband Peter, brothers John Thomas and James, and also her sisters Anna and Molly. Bridget ran a successful Bicycle Sales and repair shop on Main Street for a long number of years with her husband and kept up the business herself when he passed away. She was a highly respected member of our community, a lovely, quiet, decent and honest lady who always made everyone feel welcome when they called to her home. She loved her cats, there was always one at her feet while she chatted away to them every day. The respect with which she was held was evident by the large number of people who called to Glennons Funeral Home where she lay in repose and to her Funeral Mass in the Manor in Edgeworthstown on Saturday morning last. Bridget was laid to rest at Killashee Cemetery. We extend our deepest sympathy to her niece, Marie Farrell, her nieces and nephews in U.S.A. and to all her good neighbours and many friends. May she rest in peace.
