The Jackpot on Monday night last 23rd June was €6,300-00. Lotto envelopes can be left in the Letterbox in St Patrick’s Hall next to the National School for collection on Monday evenings and everyone is welcome to attend the draw. The club have an option of paying by direct debit for anyone wishing to join the LOTTO and give the club much needed support. Contact any club officer or check out the club website League: Arva had Belturbet as visitors to Michael Cully Park on Friday evening last for the penultimate game in the Brady’s Arva VW Division 2 Breffni League which the visitors won by 2-9 to 1-9. This was a good sporting game which was played on a beautiful sunny evening. Unfortunately, the list of scorers was mislaid, so we can’t give a run down of the game – apologies. On tonight, Wednesday, Cavan will travel to Pearse Park, Longford to play the home side in the Leinster Junior Championship Final with throw-In at 7.30pm. Cavan won this final two years ago when they defeated Kildare in Newbridge while last year Longford defeated Cavan in the semi final. The visitors will be hoping to reverse that result on this occasion. We wish the team and management every good luck and especially our Arva players James and Peter Morris and Ciaran Brady. Get along early and support the team.


The Cavan senior team will play Westmeath this Saturday at 3pm in Kingspan Breffni Park. This is the first round of the All Ireland Qualifiers and Cavan will be hoping to get a good run like last year. Despite the setback in Armagh, we know the team is better than that and hope they can return to winning ways on Saturday.


Monster Bingo continues in St Patrick’s Hall, Arva each Sunday night with a good attendance. With over €3,150-00 on offer each night (€1,000 on page 9) it is one of the best sessions around. Eyes down at 9.00 pm.

Church Services

For the Arva Church of Ireland Parish Group – Saturday, 28th June at 8pm - Praise Service in Columbkille. Sunday, 29th June, Parish Outing to Crom Church, Co Fermanagh for Worship at 12 noon followed by Dinner and visit to Crom Estate.

Praise service

Corlisbratten Methodist Church will hold their monthly Praise Service on this Sunday, 29th June at 8 o’clock. There is a general invitation to everyone to attend and tea will be served afterwards in the adjoining hall.

Feast Day

On Sunday last the Catholic Church celebrated the Feast of Corpus Christi and following Mass in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Arva, Rev Donald Hannon C.C. led a Procession with the Blessed Sacrament around the church. He then held Benediction outside the church with the Youth Choir in fine voice. The beautiful sunshine added to the sense of occasion


Death by suicide is a tragedy for everyone concerned. The grief and sense of loss experienced can be overwhelming. Living Links Cavan is holding an Ecumenical Service of Remembrance for family and friends bereaved by suicide on this Sunday, 29th June at 3pm in St. Brigid’s Church, Killeshandra. Everyone welcome. Those attending are welcome to bring a photo of their deceased loved ones.

Show meeting

Arva Agricultural Show Society will hold a meeting this Thursday, 26th June at 9pm in the Resource Centre, Market Square, Arva. All members please attend, new members welcome. This years event will be held on Sunday, 27th July with all the usual classes for animals, home crafts, Farm & Garden produce, Dog Show, etc, etc. The Show Dance that night will have music by Mike Denver and his Band in the Breffni Arms Hotel which should attract a large attendance. Denver is one of the top attractions on the country music circuit and has a top class band.

Water Safety

The annual two week course in Swimming and Water Safety will take place on Gartylough Lake, Arva from Monday next 30th June to 11th July. This course has been running for over 40 years and has in that time turned out thousands of young people with Basic Swimming Skills while many went on through the different levels to become Instructor’s themselves. This includes all Life Saving skills and Resuscitation and has been put to good use by many of the participants over the years.

Slimming World

The 6th Class pupils from St. Mary’s National School, Arva held a Cake Sale and a Sale of Work with D.V.Ds, CDs, Toys, books and a raffle on Wednesday of last week in St. Patrick’s Hall, Arva with tea and light refreshments. All proceeds from the event will be donated to Temple Street and the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Congratulations and well done to all involved.


The Arvagh 3 Province Festival is back in 2014 from July 26th to August 4th. Highlights include the Wet, Wild ‘n’ Wacky Raft Race, Arvagh Busking Competition, Big Generator and much, much more! Breffni 20k

The Annual Breffni 20K Challenge will take place this year on Saturday, 2nd August with the proceeds going as usual to St Luke’s Hospital for Cancer Cure, Care and Control, N.B.C.R.I. (National Breast Cancer Research Institute), and Cavan Cancer Homecare. Over the past years close to one million euro has been raised for these charities and the organisers are looking forward to another successful event. Get your sponsorship cards in the usual outlets and make a special effort to help these very worthy charities.
