Blood transfusion service

The mobile unit of the Blood Transfusion Service will visit St Brigid’s Community Centre, Loch Gowna on Monday, 28th April and Tuesday, 29th April from 5pm – 8.30pm. Please support this essential service. It is important that we remember that many patients in hospital need our blood.

Stars in Your Eyes

Stars in Your Eyes fundraiser in aid of St Joseph’s and the Helpers Charity Post War Victims in Bosnia on Easter Sunday night, 20th April in Breffni Arms Hotel, Arva, commencing at 8.30pm. Many guest stars will appear on the night.

Old mobile phone collection

St Patrick’s National School are currently collecting old mobile phones for the Jack and Gill Foundation. If they collect 120 phones the school will receive a free laptop. Each person who donates a phone will be in with a chance of winning VIP tickets to see One Direction in concert. If you have any old mobile phones, leave them into the school or drop them in the collection box located in the Post Office. Please leave a note with your name address and telephone number if you wish to be entered into the One Direction draw.

Card game

25 card game in St Brigid’s Community Centre every Tuesday night at 8.30pm. Please note time change of start of game.

Host families

Fishing competition

Loch Gowna Anglers will host a Junior Open Boat Pike fishing competition on Saturday, 19th April on Derries Lake. Fishing from 12 noon to 4pm. Life jackets supplied on the day. Valuable fishing tackle. Prizes to be won. Barbecue on lake shore. If boat is required please contact Tony on 087 7536848 or Ciaran on 086 8579156. Everyone welcome.


We wish to extend our deepest sympathy to the Degnan family, Cullinamore, Dring on the recent death of their father, Tom Degnan. May he rest in peace.

Church ceremonies

Holy Family Church Loch Gowna - Holy Thursday Mass 7pm followed by one hour exposition of blessed sacrament. Good Friday, liturgy of Lord’s Passion 7pm. Holy Saturday, 8pm blessing of Paschal candle, water. Renewal of baptismal vows and vigil mass. Easter Sunday, Mass at 11.15am. Easter Sunday, Sunrise Service at 6.20am outside Gowna Church. Weather permitting . Fr PJ Fitzpatrick and Rev Hazel Hicks wish all their parishioners a happy Easter.

Rural transport

Please note that all scheduled rural transport Friday service will run on Thursday, 17th April with same collection and departure times.

Sunrise service

Easter Sunday, 20th April, Sunrise Service (hymns, prayers and bible readings Holy Communion for those who wish to partake) at 6.20am outside at Gowna Church of Ireland. If weather is bad the service will be held in the church. Everyone welcome. Tea/coffee breakfast rolls and hot cross buns after the service. Easter eggs for the children. Voluntary collection for Bishop’s Appeal working towards ending global poverty.
