All Ireland Final
The Cavan U-21 team will play in the All Ireland Final against Galway on this Sunday in Croke Park with the Throw In timed for 2.00 pm. Cavan have not played an All Ireland Final in Croke Park since 1952 so this is sure to bring a massive attendance. James and Peter Morris are members of the panel. We wish the team and management the best of luck and hopefully they can be successful. They showed tremendous determination to defeat Wexford in the semi final just 3 days after the Ulster Final and a repeat of that will surely auger well for them.
In the game that follows Dublin will play Kilkenny in the Hurling League Final and this will attract a big interest from this general area. Among the Dublin players are Full Back Thomas Brady – son of former Arva player White Thomas, Goalkeeper Gary Maguire – son of Hugh Ollie formerly from Legga, Shane Durkin Midfield – son of Thomas Durkin formerly from Crott. We also wish them every success.
Congratulations to the Longford Senior Football team who won the Division 4 League on Saturday last in Croke Park. Included in the team are goalkeeper Damien Sheridan, Dromard – son of Annette Nee McKeever, Drumhilla, Arva; Dermot Brady, Slashers – son of former Arva stalwart Donal from Gurteen; Shane Mulligan, Mullinalaghta whose grandfather Frank was from Arva (now Murtagh’s Pub) while his brother Kevin was a sub; Noel Farrell, Colmcille who lives in Farrangarve, Arva; Declan Reilly from Smear; Diarmuid Masterson, Francis McGee, Dromard. Well done to all involved and hopefully we will see them all in Gowna on Monday.
Best wishes are extended to the Killeshandra and Gowna Clubs who reopen their new playing facilities this coming weekend. In Killeshandra on this Saturday evening Cavan will play Down at 6.00 pm while in Gowna on Monday Cavan will play Longford. Hopefully the sun will shine on both venues and we wish them every success on their respective days.
