TIDY TOWNS WALK - Newtowncashel Tidy Towns Annual Sponsored Nature Walk takes place on Monday May 2nd. Primary school children start at 2.30pm from Derrydarragh. Under-16’s and Adults start at 2.30pm from “The Hill”.

TIDY TOWNS WALK - Newtowncashel Tidy Towns Annual Sponsored Nature Walk takes place on Monday May 2nd. Primary school children start at 2.30pm from Derrydarragh. Under-16’s and Adults start at 2.30pm from “The Hill”.

All finish at the GAA Clubhouse. Adult participants will be included in a draw for a weekend away for two, dinner for two, a Bog Yew Sculpture and several other prizes.

Sponsorship cards are now available from committee members. Participants are asked to write their names on the reverse of cards which should be handed in at “The Hill”. Cards or cash cannot be accepted at Derrydarragh. All Primary School finishers will feature in a draw for attractive prizes. Each child participating will receive a lucky bag! Phone credit of €40, €20 and €10 will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd highest individual sponsorship collected by Primary School Participants. All prizes, adult, Under-16 and children will be presented at the Clubhouse.


A Tidy Towns meeting to finalise arrangements for the walk will be held in “The Hill” on Wednesday April 27th at 8.30pm. All members are requested to attend please.


Congratulations to Lucy Casey, Ballagh, who was baptised and confirmed, and received the Eucharist for the first time during the Easter Vigil, thus becoming a full member of the Roman Catholic Church.


Sports day will be on Friday the 20th May starting at 5.30pm sharp and finishing at no later than 7.30pm. The first events will be in the Under-16 category. Anyone with unwanted medals can donate them for reuse to any member of the committee in the next two weeks.

All those interested in taking part in the swimming competitions please give their name to our Secretary, Emma Murray (086)8654711, as soon as possible. All competitors must be able to swim two lengths of the pool. Tag Rugby training continues at the GAA pitch at 12.30pm after football training. Please continue to collect Tesco School Vouchers and drop them in to any member of the committee or to the local shop L&K. Vouchers will be available until the 8th of May.

The next Community Games Committee Games meeting will be on Thursday 12th May at 8pm.


The Junior Choir will hold a practice in the Church on Saturday 7th from 5.30 – 6.30pm in preparation for Do This in Memory.


On Sunday May 1st the Sisters of Mercy celebrate the Sesquincentenary, the 150th Anniversary of their arrival in Longford in 1861. The Thanksgiving Mass in St Mel’s Cathedral Centre at 3.00pm will be followed by refreshments in St Mel’s College.


Cashel football players are running a quiz night on Friday April 29th in Fallon’s at 9.30pm. If you would like to take part please contact one of the players. Your support would be appreciated.

GAA coaching for children of all ages continues every Sunday morning at 11.30am in Páirc Ciarán. All are welcome


The Annual Pioneer Outing takes place on Wednesday July 20th, travelling to Armagh. In addition to Armagh City, with its two cathedrals, the tour will include Navan Fort, Eamhain Mhacha, and Loughgall, birthplace of the Orange Order. The cost is €40, payable when booking. This charge includes coach hire, driver/guide, morning coffee, admission to designated places of interest. It does not include lunch and dinner which are at the discretion of individuals. Badminton continues in “The Hill” on Thursday nights at 9.00pm. New players are always welcome!


The Toddler Group will resume activities in “The Hill” on Tuesday morning, May 3rd, from 9.30 – 11.30am. All are welcome!


The new parish website is being launched. It will include details of all clubs, societies and businesses. We offer our condolences to the family, neighbours and friends of May Martin nee Kelly, Kiltoom, Co Roscommon, and formerly of Greenhall Upper, who died last week. May she rest in peace.


Well done to Peter Foy and the Longford team who won the Division Four League title in Croke Park on Sunday last.
