Death There was widespread regret at the death of Patrick ‘Sonny’ Kiernan, Augharan, Aughavas which occurred recently. Despite his advanced years Sonny enjoyed a very active life up to a short time prior to his death which saw him visit Carrigallen frequently where he would enjoy a drink and a chat about whatever was topical at the time. A keen sportsman in earlier life, Sonny was an excellent shot and hunted all across the country. But it was in the breeding and rearing of pedigree cattle Sonny stood out taking him all across the country, initially with Hereford cattle and more recently Charolais. One of Sonny’s last such outings was to Carrick-on-Shannon a few weeks before his death to see his son, Michael and family sweep the boards with record prices for their award winning cattle, which no doubt was a great source of pride to him. Sonny’s removal and funeral saw a huge attendance with people from all over the country travelling to pay their respects to a well known and liked character. Sympathy is extended to his son Michael, daughters Mary Rose and Josephine and their families. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasal.
