Yes, I think it’s all ready. The Festival Committee would appreciate volunteers to help out on the day. This would involve helping to supervise the different activities in the field, to setting up tables, chairs and artwork in the marquee. Please contact us on dromoddevelopment@hotmail.com or by phone on 08799 72439.

Fundraising is still ongoing and all sponsorship will be greatly appreciated.

Dawn Mass

Last Sunday (Easter Sunday) I attended my first dawn Mass in the grounds of the Poor Clare’s Convent, Drumshanbo and it would be an understatement to say it was the most fulfilling hour of this year. Starting at 5am in the dark and concluding at 6am in brightness with the beautiful dawn chorus was just amazing. Fr Peter Burke P.P. Drumshanbo was the celebrant with a beautiful folk choir enhancing the ceremony. There were hundreds of people there young and old from all over the country most who make this an annual event. I met some of my neighbours there and we all agreed it was well worth the effort of getting up early.

Wedding bells

We extend our congratulations to Declan Hackett and Patricia Nugent who were married on Thursday last. Declan and Patricia held their reception in the Shannon Key West Hotel, Rooskey with Night Fever and the Looney Hoppers providing the entertainment. We wish you many years of health and happiness together.

Bornacoola GAA

The Girls played their fourth game of this year’s Division 2 League campaign in ideal but hot conditions in Dromod on Saturday evening last but it was the visitors, Glencar/Manorhamilton, who came out on top on a final scoreline of 4-9 to 1-4. Leading 1-3 to 1-1 at the end of the first quarter, Glencar/Manor pressed home their advantage to lead by 3-4 to 1-1 at the break. A very good third quarter saw our girls reduce the deficit by three points but the visitors finished stronger to record a comfortable victory. Next on the list for the girls in another home game on Sunday versus St Joseph’s at 2.30pm. Team: Michelle Reilly, Rachel Duignan, Niamh Reynolds, Maeve Duffy, Sarah Duffy, Joanne McGushin, Jillian Duignan, Allison McKeon, Leonie Duffy (0-2), Kelly Howard (0-1), Fiona Reilly (0-1), Sheena Faughnan, Michelle O Beirne (0-1). Subs: Louise Farrell, Nadine Hackett, Shannon Boyle, Ciara Hackett and Tanya Donnelly. On Saturday the local derby in division 1 took place in Annaduff between Bornacoola and Annaduff. Both sides got off to slow scoring starts and through the first quarter it was tit for tat with points on either side but an Annaduff goal followed by three unanswered points saw the start of what was to be a easy victory for the home side concluding on a scoreline of Bornacoola 0.08 Annaduff 1.15. On Sunday our division 2 team travelled to Fenagh for another league encounter. This game was lively right from the start with the home side up by three points at half time Bornacoola rallied well in the second half and took the lead for a short time a few wides and missed goal chances they must feel that the nearly let it slip away from the in the end the game finished all square on a scoreline of ten points each. Our third team had a league game away to Cloone on Monday.
