5K Fun run/walk
Sunday, February 16th, will see Castlepollard hosting a 5K Fun Run/Race/Walk taking place in aid of life changing surgery for seven years old Jane Boyle Regan. The surgery, which will take place in Switzerland, will open her airways and rebuild her vocal chords to enable her to finally speak. Jane is the daughter of Laura Boyle, and her maternal grandparents are locals Kit and Mary Boyle. The event starts at 1pm and registration takes place from 11.45am on the day in Castlepollard Town Hall. Entry fee is 10 euro per adult, U-16 5 euro, and family entry is 20 euro. The next meeting of Castlepollard Historical Society which was to have taken place on Thursday evening, February 6th, at 8pm in Hotel Castlepollard, will now take place on Thursday, March 6th. Society chairperson Rachel Grimes will address the meeting and give pointers on how to research a family tree.
We extend congratulations and very best wishes to Linda Healy who recently graduated from Castlepollard Community College with a FETAC level 5 Certificate in Applied Social Studies. Linda has secured a place on the BA (Hons) Arts Degree in NUI, Galway, where she is taking Sociology, Political Studies and Psychology.
Blood donors in the Castlepollard and surrounding areas are asked to make a note of the next Blood Donor Clinic which will take place in the Annebrook House Hotel, Mullingar, from Monday, February 10th, to Thursday, February 13th, inclusive. The Clinic will be open from 4.30pm to 8.00pm daily. Blood donations are constantly in demand due to scheduled and emergency surgery, blood platelets and blood plasma requirements.
40th Wedding Anniversary

St Patrick’s parade
The next meeting of the North Westmeath St. Patrick’s Day Parade committee will take place on Wednesday, February 5th, at 8.30pm, to discuss preparations for this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
Baptism preparation course
The next Baptism Preparation Course for parents takes place in the Parish Community Centre, Church Street, Castlepollard, at 8pm on Wednesday, February 19th. Parents are asked to register two weeks in advance of the course. Parents who do not have a babysitter may bring baby with them to the meeting. The meeting is being organised by the Multy Group.
Ringtown GAA Club are hosting an Easter Half Marathon on Easter Monday, April 21st. The event is being run in aid of Ringtown GAA Club and TEAM (Temporary Emergency Accommodation Mullingar). The days events begin with a 10k run which will start at 11.00am, and the Half Marathon event will begin at 11.15am. The course will start from Ringtown GAA Centre, heading out to and around Old Kiltoom, and back to Whitehall on the Mullingar Road, with one lap for the 10k route, and two laps for the half marathon. Entry fees are 15.00 euro for the 10k event, and 30.00 euro for the half marathon. To guarantee a free t-shirt, register entry online with www.precisiontiming.net.
