Senior Citizens Party
Annual Christmas Dinner will be held on 15 December 2013 in Crawford’s. A Cake Sale was held on 23 and 24 November after all Masses to raise funds for this endeavour. The Senior Citizens Committee have generously decided to give the proceeds of the Cake Sale to Syria and the Philippines Appeal, instead of giving it to the Senior Citizens Christmas Party.
We would like to thank everyone who supported our Mr and Mrs Competition in Crawford’s Bar on Saturday night last. The night was a great success. Thanks in no small way to all who took part in the competition. Josie and William Crawford for the use of their premises and for their sponsorship of the competition prize; Tomjoe Donohoe for the use and setting up of amplification equipment, to all who donated prizes for the raffle and all who made sandwiches and last by no means least to all who attended on the night. The proceeds on the night will go towards this year’s follow up of the Mock Wedding. Plans are well underway for another great performance. Details of which will be announced later.
Gun Club Draw and Party
The Gun Club are holding their Annual Christmas Draw and Party in Crawford’s Lounge on Saturday the 21 December, music on the night is by Na Fianna. Tickets for their draw are now on sale by club members and in local shops, 1st prize €300, 2nd prize €200, 3rd prize €100 and 4th prize €50; tickets cost €2 each or 3 for €5.

As part of our Community Festive Celebrations and Gathering 2013 the Christmas Lights committee are hosting a Christmas Market on Sunday 8 December on Upper Main Street Granard. All surrounding local businesses are invited to come together in these challenging times to promote their seasonal wares in traditional market style. The Christmas Market is being incorporated with the switching on of the Christmas lights in the town. There will be the unique live crib and stationary crib also. Local Carol singers will provide entertainment and Santa will arrive to kick off the festive celebrations. Anyone wishing to take a stand is welcome to do so. Rath Mhuire Resource Centre is having a Sale of Work/Pop up Shop on Friday 6 December in the Community Centre Granard starting at 9.00am. There will be a large range of items for sale and we already have collected many new and unused quality products so this would be the ideal opportunity to get that present for a great price. The annual senior citizen’s party for the Granard/Abbeylara and Mullinalaghta areas will be held in Lus Na Greine on Sunday December 1st next at 1.00 pm and all our senior citizens are invited to attend. This promises to be a great party with plenty of music song and dance and a beautiful Christmas dinner for all. If anyone would like to be associated with the party by giving a prize for the free raffle or a cash donation to help with covering expenses you can do so by calling to the centre or by contacting any committee member. Warmest congratulations to Abbeylara N. S. who were runners up at National level in the Cumann na mBunscol of the year award 2012/2013. Well done to all involved on this great achievement. The presentation took place on Saturday night 16 November in the Suite of the Hogan Stand, Croke Park. It was a very pleasant and enjoyable event that was a very good illustration of the wonderful work being done by Primary Schools to promote the Gaelic Games. The sponsors are Corn market.

Country Markets Move
Patrons of the Country Markets in Granard are asked to please take note that the market has moved from the Community Centre and will now be held in Gerry Kiernan’s premises on upper Main Street (beside Kiernan’s butchers). The Markets start at 8.30 am and continue until 11.00 am. They are delighted to announce that they now have beautiful handmade children and baby wear along with the usual stock of scarves, cards, jewellery, bread, cakes, firewood, etc.

A Diary is available at Granard Area Action Group office to enable local voluntary groups and fundraising events to log their forthcoming activities for the year so as to help co-ordinate events successfully and to avoid duplication where possible.

Free Benefit 4 Computer Training at EDI Centre Longford: this 8-hour programme is ongoing, and is due to finish on December 1st.
