GAA Club: Lotto
The Arva Football Club Lotto draw was held in the Club Rooms on Monday 18th November. The Jackpot was €4,750 – Numbers drawn were 6/ 16 / 18 / 28. No winner – €50 winners – Liam Dolan, Corhanna. Jim Moran, Arva. Ciaran Mc Cabe, Knockbride. The Lotto Jackpot on Monday last 25th November was €4,800-00. Lotto Envelopes can be left in the Letterbox in St Patrick’s Hall next to the National School for collection on Monday evenings and everyone is welcome to attend the draw. The club have an option of paying by direct debit for anyone wishing to join the LOTTO and give the club much needed support. Contact any club officer or check out the club website www.arvagfc.com Arva Ladies GFC: training for all ages continues throughout November on Saturdays at 11.30 am and on Wednesdays (fitness training) at 7 pm weather permitting. As the Club is already making plans for next season, we are especially looking for girls in the parish who are born in the years of 96/97/98 in order to create a panel for U16/U18. We also welcome interested girls born in 2002/03/04 to strengthen and build up a new U12 team. Of course, all girls interested in this beautiful team sport are welcome to attend and register. Congratulations: are extended to Brian (Beano) Ellis on his selection as the Cavan Junior Player of the Year 2013 as voted by Cavan supporters over the past few weeks. The winners were announced and presented with their awards at a Banquet in the Hotel Kilmore, Cavan on Friday night last with Declan Mc Kiernan, Killeshandra taking the Intermediate trophy and Eamonn O’ Reilly, Cavan Gaels taking the Senior trophy. Also on the night Cian Mackey was presented with an award as the Club Breffni Cavan Senior Player of the Year while the victorious Cavan U-21 team were presented with their Ulster Championship medals. Ciaran Brady, Gurteen, Arva was a member of that team and one of the guests of honour on the night.
On this Saturday 30th November Arva GAA will host a Table Quiz in the Breffni Arms Hotel and they call on all members and supporters to participate. A donation will be made to the Philippines Appeal following the disaster which happened there a few weeks ago. It will be a Fun Night and refreshments will be served at the interval. Come out and make it a night to remember.
If there are people with Sponsorship Cards for the annual Breffni 20 K Challenge could they please return them to Arva Post Office as soon as possible but not later than this Friday - 29th November. The proceeds will be presented to the three charities on Friday of next week at 10.00 pm. music on the night will be provided by Mary Harwood and James Galligan and a good night is assured. Each year St Luke’s Hospital, Dublin, National Breast Cancer Research Institute, Galway and Cavan Cancer Homecare receive much needed funding as a result of the generosity of many people who take part or sponsor participants in the Breffni 20 K.
Scór needs your talents! Arva GAA are looking for people to get involved in Senior Scór. We are looking for singers, musicians, dancers, actors and brainy people for the quiz. There will be a Scór meeting in the Hall this Thursday 28th November at 9.30pm. Everybody welcome. It is with regret that we record the death of Mrs Teresa Catherine Brady (nee Farrelly), Kilgarve, Arva which occurred at Laurel Lodge Nursing Home, Longford on Wednesday 6th November. Teresa was born and reared and lived all her life in Kilgarve where along with her late husband Hugh reared a family of 4 boys and 3 girls. Teresa was a hard worker all her life helping out on the family farm and rearing her family. She was of a very friendly disposition and had a friendly word for everyone. Like most people of her generation she had a very strong faith and attended to her religious duties without fail. She is survived by her sons Colm, Eamonn, Sean all in America and Hugh Óg in Kilgarve, daughters Mrs Maura Daly, Ballymahon, Mrs Dympna O’ Connell, Sligo, Mrs Angela Smith, Longford, grandchildren, nephews, nieces and many friends to all of whom we extend sincere sympathy. Her remains were removed from her home to the Church of the Sacred Heart, Arva where they were received by Rev Donald Hannon C.C. who celebrated her Requiem Mass and officiated at her burial in the family plot in Coronea Cemetery. Teresa had just one sister Mrs Molly Hanlon, Dring who unfortunately was unable to attend the obsequies and sadly passed away just a week later. She was a very friendly person also who loved meeting people especially if they were from Arva. Molly always kept up to date on the happenings in her home area. Her remains were removed to Purth church and following Requiem Mass burial took place in the adjoining cemetery. To her sons, daughters and extended family we extend sincere sympathy. Sympathy is extended to the sisters, nieces, nephews of M.s Mary Kate Mulligan, Drumhaldry, Moyne which occurred on 6th November. Her remains were removed from her home to the Church of the Sacred Heart, Arva and following Requiem Mass burial took place in Colmcille Cemetery. Rev Eamonn Corkery, P.P. Dromard officiated. Sympathy is extended to Mr Hugh Bannon, Drumhilla, Arva on the death of his mother Mrs Lucy Bannon, Dingins, Corlismore which occurred on 6th November. Her remains were removed to the Church of the Holy Family, Gowna and following Requiem Mass burial in Loughduff Cemetery. Rev P.J. Fitzpatrick P.P. Officiated

Be safe-be seen
With the dark evenings now upon us we urge pedestrians / cyclists to make sure to wear reflective clothing while out walking or on their bikes. It is impossible for drivers to see pedestrians / cyclists who wear dark clothing and there is an ample range of appropriate gear available.
The Switch-on of the town Christmas lights and the annual visit of Santa Claus takes place on Saturday the 14th December at 4pm. The Lights will be switched on at the Christmas tree on the Market Square kindly donated by Brady’s of Arva. Local Carol Signing will take place. This year businesses are requested to give generously to the cost of the Christmas lighting and Santa gifts. Tickets for the Christmas Hamper draw will be on sale in all outlets in Arva from Friday 22nd November.

Mullahoran Active Age have invited Arva to a Social Evening in the Piker’s Lodge, Lough Gowna on this Thursday evening 28th November at 7.30 pm. The Arva Community Dinner will take place on Wednesday 11th December at 7.30 pm sharp in the Breffni Arms Hotel. Admission is just €5-00 so come along and have a good nights entertainment and meet Santa Claus.

St Vincent de Paul
The Christmas Country Market will take place in the former Bargain Buys shop on Main Street, Arva on Friday 13th December commencing at 9.30 am. Home Baking, Jewellery, Flowers and many more stalls will be present. Do come along and support the Market and hopefully finish your Christmas shopping.
On Saturday 30th November from 1pm to 5 pm in Gilsenans function room (Minnie’s), Main Street, Killeshandra. Lots of great ideas for Christmas presents from local crafters, community groups, schools and businesses from Killeshandra and surrounding towns.
